So, in the next few weeks I hope to be getting a 11-13 Forester. It will be used for an Airport car mostly, but will also be a light overlander that allows me to go farther than the gas mileage of my Suburban will currently let me. With this I am wanting opinions of RTT vs. a light weight trailer like a Tear Drop. I could build the TD myself, so cost would be about the same or just a little more. Big thing is that my wife is just not going if we just have a ground tent, that ins not an option.
If I go with a Tear Drop I will have to have one with decent ground clearance and it will need to be very light, the car has a max tow load of 2400lbs, I would like to be around half of that empty.
The up side to a RTT is that I could use it on both the Subaru and the Suburban. I would not need the trailer with the Suburban.
Opinions?
