Hey all would love your input on this! Ive got a 5th gen 4runner and I've been debating a lift. I don't REALLY need one yet and and truthfully probably won't for the travel I am planning to do in it. That being said I don't like how they sit raked forward stock.

I was looking at level kits that essentially just are spacers for the front to bring it up to the same level as the rear. Problem is that makes me nervous. I am worried it will prematurely wear out the front components and/or ride poorly. It's only an inch but I am still concerned. My only experience with suspension is doing drops on high performance cars. I saw a lot of cheap components and they did a lot of damage in the long run to struts etc that weren't meant to be at the ride height they were at. I know that in those scenarios the struts didn't have as much travel and with a lift they don't have as much rebound but I am not aware of how that affects the wear.

My second option was to buy a fairly inexpensive lift like the OME or Toytec ($1000 range) where you get a set of coils/struts and the diff drop kit etc where you can lift it 1-3".

So my question and I mean no disrespect to anyone who went the first option but am I better off doing the full kit and doing say 2" in the front and 1" in the rear or are the spacers fine for longevity AND ride quality?

I don't want to "buy twice" if that makes sense, but I am also not above going the cheaper route and using the funds saved elsewhere.

I'm sure this question crosses platforms so anyone with experience I welcome your input!

Thanks! mason

I'm glad your here and looking for input. Just an idea that may help as it has helped me and many others. If you look at a vehicle specific forum, I use and search the FJ cruiser forum for tech all the time and it helps me figure out what works and what doesn't. Welcome and good luck in your search. I run a fox (hybrid) suspension and love it on and off road.
I would stay away from spacers, good coil over's with upper control arms are your best option. When you look on google it's not about lift it's about suspension DROOP with IFS. Keep in mind that your front drive line angle is the limit. If you keep the angle low it will droop more and that's a win win. Good luck and reach out to me if you have question's......

I'm not a fan of spacers. But you can go that route to get you by for some time while you save for a good lift kit. Like Icon, king, etc.

One of my good customers decided to add a toytec spacer up front on his Trail edition for a short time. It had 500 miles on the odometer...
I should add that 1" won't do much for added wear in the rest of the components just get it aligned after. The suspension on these new vehicles is so nice ride quality you won't even notice.

His tires he choose still rubbed a little so at 5k miles we added a toytec lift kit. Rides better than stock, it is smooth!

Picture of the front shocks you can see the spacer he had on there. I have more pictures of similar set ups on our FB page and I hope I can answer more questions if you have them.
The last picture the rear wheel opening is larger the vehicle sits completely leveled, we were both happy with the results. (https://m.facebook.com/ToyotaProConcord/ )

if you can wait and see what kind of trails you prefer to go down, then make the decision, that will save any buyers remorse. But if you put on the 1"-3" lift now, you likely wont think "man I wish I went shorter." I'm a big proponent of figuring out what you "need" vs. what you simply want.
