For the purpose of this, if you are giving information that is helpful to deterring if there are offroad/overlanding friendly insurance companies, please include which state you are discussing. Case in point. I just called Geico and confirmed Texas does not allow the types of glass coverage afforded by other states. When with Geico in AZ, I paid $0 for windshield ding repair and $25 co-pay for windshield replacement. In Texas, glass coverage is considered "comprehensive" and subject to your regular comprehensive deductible.

I've been with Geico for 25 years. Prices go up, I call, they lower them. Its a dance ive been doing and don't mind. I have NEVER had a claim with Geico other than glass when I lived in AZ.

I called today to find out in the event of theft/accident/etc, what is covered by my current policy, what i snot covered by my current policy and what is covered in my rider I ahve with them, since there is nothing specific in my rider outlining detailed coverage. Their answer: "Anything that MAY be deemed as offroad use only" can be denied after the fact. In addition, I asked, can you email me the list of CAN and CAN NOT so I have clear documentation? No was the answer. Time to look for a company who has my interest in mind and has clear policies in place that I can see, not take notes from over the phone.

Who is using what, especially when it comes to overlanding equipment? Here is a list of upgrades to my rig that I am trying to be sure are covered. There are lots of other stuff, but all of these are actually replacing OEM or providing a higher level of function. All of my recovery gear, camping gear, etc would be covered under homeowners. It will all be printed clearly in the policy, but you'll have to read all 40 pages.

You might find things like winch bumpers will increase your rate since the factory bumpers are designed to minimize pedestrian injuries and after market winch bumpers can severely maim a pedestrian. For the insurance company what you percieve as an upgrade and higher functioning part they will regard as increased liability.

On coverage for the cost of all those upgrades most insurers will offer an "agreed value" rather than itemizing all the upgrades, but the premium will increase to cover the value you expect beyond the vehicles book value.

My state farm agent says I'm cover on and off road against mechanical issues, if I hit a tree or rock etc.
For accessories like bumpers, sliders, winch, etc covered
For the camping stuff and loose items it homeowners insurance.

As far as I know state farm and All-State are the only 2 in the USA that have off road coverage.

I know motorsports insurance won't work you have to damage it on the race track.

That much I know, its more of who in practical relationships is working with a company they like, respect and are truly covered by, not using vague blanket statements like my phone conversation today with Geico. I will look into SF and Farmers and see where I land. My only other real issue is a 16yo daughter on my policy. Granted she is a 4.16GPA and a girl which keeps her rates low, but still.... she's 16!
