We have all been there, sitting at home, thinking of ways to improve our off road travel experience, and method of camping. I've been through many iterations of camp gear in my years of outdoor enjoyment. First was a truck bed tent by Napier sportz that lasted me a good 6 years until Gail force winds at overland expo 2015 destroyed it. Then I thought "hey, I have a slide in camper sitting at home, let's see how that does." After 1 trip out to a remote campsite, I realized that while it was comfortable, it just was too difficult to maneuver the combo through the trails.
Then I went to a standard ground tent. This worked fine, but my next problem was, with two car seats and a family of 4, I needed somewhere to store all of my gear that stayed in the truck full time. It used to be stored under my back seat, but as you can imagine, getting to the gear with the Car seats and kids proved to be difficult.
Enter Leitner Designs. I had camped a number of times with the owner of Leitner Designs, and had always admired his product. After some thinking, I decided it was time to make a permanent decision on our future of camping. I got in contact with Leitner Designs and met with him at his shop to acquire my new rack.
The rack is a modular design constructed of extruded aluminum. Total weight of the empty rack is just 65 pounds.
A couple of weeks of saving more pennies, I picked up some gear pods, rotopax and universal mounting plates from Leitner Designs to complete the rack.
Shortly after that, I made another large purchase, a CVT Mount Denali 4+ person roof top tent, and mounted it to the top of the rack.
All in all, after one weekend out with the new setup, I could not be happier. If you're looking for a way to store gear and mount a roof top tent, look no further than the Leitner Designs Active Cargo System. Best part of all, it's made right here in the USA!
