Legal Weapons and Overlanding

Damn that does look nice. I want to build a small secured cabinet on the floor behind my seats with a magnetic lock to hold a rifle and some other equipment. Partly for utility, partly for the fun of the game.

Should be an easy project . In my FJ60, I had a rifle rack across the ceiling . Can't do that in the 200 Series.

I got thinking...being married to a redhead with a hair-pin trigger temper...could a wife be considered a weapon?

so the answer is "Absolutely!"

i know that anytime I try to take something back to a store for a return and I don't have my receipt...I can go back out to the truck and hand it to her and in 5 minutes, shes back with my money. maybe next time I get brake checked, I should just calmly pull over and let HER handle it...

Never needed a gun in 55 years of my life and I’m not going to start now. I’ve needed an extra cam strap more times than I’ve needed a gun, which is zero. I really don’t care what you spend your money on or what your politics are on the issue they just aren’t a part of my kit. The only problems I’ve had out overlanding have been when people have brought weapons along on a trip. I’ve been barrel swept more than once by drunk gun owners showing off their piece. I’ve seen gun owners lose a weapon and it be found in a children’s playground at a state park. So when I lead a trip now I require no weapons to come out of a vehicle. If I see one that person is asked to leave immediately. We are not at war. No one is coming to get you. Issues with protecting yourself from wildlife are caused usually by the people not the animals. Proper food storage will avoid those kinds of issues.

Oh, how tempting.

There's another side of the story, but I've overlanded in places that would eat you alive if they knew you were unarmed.

Let me correct you on your comment where you stated: "...that God gave you the right that in actuality the government gave you the right..."

The government did NOT/does NOT give us the right.

The U.S. Constitution does not grant us the right to keep and bear arms; it protects a right that already exists.
The Declaration of Independence makes this clear: we are “endowed by [our] Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” and governments are instituted to secure those rights, not to create them.
The Second Amendment states plainly: “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Notice the language—it refers to “the right of the people” as something pre-existing, not something the government is giving us. The phrase “shall not be infringed” COMMANDS THE GOVERNMENT to leave it alone, precisely because the right comes first.
In short, I believe the right to bear arms is inherent and God-given, as the Founders understood natural rights.
The Constitution simply recognizes and safeguards it against government overreach.

I was hoping someone would correct him. Thanks. I lost interest in his post.

Please could you tell us what those places are. I’m genuinely interested.

also, how did you get your guns to them? Isn’t it difficult taking firearms across borders?

In many places almost impossible with lengthy prison sentences. example you try and get an undeclared handgun into Canada you can be jailed for up 14 years, 7 for anything else. Now it never happens, in general those US citizens are turned around and handed to the US border agents. The odd belligerent one has had their firearms seized, and been charged, but they rarely get more than a fine and do not come back ever.

canada doesn't have jails...they have penalty boxes...:grinning:

a lot of places are OK with rimfire cartridges, so something like a Ruger 10/22 is fine to have. a stainless 10/22 with composite folding stock is perfect for traveling...
CCI makes the "Stinger" round that is a 22LR hollow point (32 grains @ 1600fps) pretty good for varmints and personal protection...

You also have to watch with folding / collapsing / picatinny rail stocks that the overall length while collapsed / stock removed, that the rifle remains above 26 inches. And most bullpup stocks as well as the charger are prohibited in any form.

Shit holes

He's not wrong. Canada is unraveling into a complete turd of a country. It's simply not worthwhile, planning any overlanding there anymore. I opted out of some work there recently. Rude ignorant customs. Stupid laws. They dont deserve my help, and better figure it out themselves (unlikely). I won't go back without double pay, every day.

The UK appears to be trying to get rid of jury trials, and is flooded with Islamic extremist violence right now. Locking up there own people for speaking out about it. Apparently its acceptable to maim, rape, and murder anyone you want to, if you're a minority in the UK. I want nothing to do with that. I'm not going there, just to get arrested because my titanium spork is too sharp. Maybe one day the UK won't be so ignorant, and it'll be worthwhile to see again. But not today.

Most of Europe is not worth going to. I'm safer in the worst ghettos of the Caribbean. If mexico gets their stuff together, Ill never run out of travel here.

I'm sure as heck not going to waste money shipping my rig there, when there's still far better places on my list.
