Laptop GPS Suggestions?

Looking for a gps program that deals with mostly the off road world. Anyone have any ideas that can point me in the right direction would be awesome. Im currently using google earth on my tough book but want something a little better. Any general help will be appreciated thanks

What platform are you wanting to run the GPS on? iOS, Android, a laptop? Here's a previous thread on using a GPS on an iPad, which should work on an iPhone, too

I thought that's what the last one was, but reading it, he's asking for Android tablet. I can't recall a Windows based GPS discussion, but someone may have a suggestion. I'll change your thread title asking specifically for laptop suggestions.
 
I have DeLorme Topo USA on both my laptop and my netbook. Works pretty well once you get the GPS connectivity issues worked out. I have been using a Garmin 48XL on a serial to USB converter. My two versions of Topo USA are now over a decade old, so new roads would not show, but for off-road use it is great and shows topology, trails and forest service roads, if known at the time of publication.

It is difficult to beat a tablet with good GPS chip and some good offline nav software. I use Locus Pro on my tablets and have iGo on my android based Jeep radio.
 
Hmmmm. Ill have to look at those guys thanks for the input. Definitely helped broaden my horizons because I was getting stumped lol.

Now that your thinking of a tablet I'm running a iPad air 2 paired up with a dual skypro GPS receiver mounted with a mob x mobarmor mount....
Currently using leadnav GPS software.

Holy Smokes that sounds pretty technical and spendy..lol
 
I also use a laptop running DeLorme Topo in my overland vehicle, but I was recently directed by another member to look at TOPO FUSION (topofusion.com). I think it may be an avenue of getting updated maps. The website owner is looking to incorporate the MVUM files published by the park service. I plan on getting into TF in the near future. Take a look and we can compare notes.
 
highly recommend the Dual Electronics XGPS150A. Usb powered and small form factor!
