Hello all,
Come February myself and a group of friends will be heading up to Lake Tahoe to snowboard for a long weekend. Was wondering if anyone had any input on resorts, locations, sights etc. you'd recommend.

Last time I was there, we stayed on the California side, Donner Lake Lodge. Before that, I can't remember where we stayed. It was a long time ago. Really enjoyed Donner Lake Lodge though.

We will be staying at an AirBnB so we are good on accommodations. Any activities you did on your visit you'd recommend?

Both times I've been there was in the summer time. Most of it we did around the water, snorkeling, diving, swimming, etc. Oh, and lots of drinking, lol. I remember the last time we were there in 07', we took a tram up a mountain to a festival. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Unfortunately our activities outside Donner Lake Lodge were limited. Unfortunately I won't be able to give you much advice on activities.

ahhh but you might be able to help me....tell me more about this drinking activity. Any watering holes you'd recommend? I have a few Craft Breweries I plan to hit on the way and in the area

Lol, we brought our own booze for the reunion. We stayed at Donner Lake Lodge for four days, drank, grilled food and spent a lot of time in the lake. I really wish I could help you out. I'm surprised no one else on here has some recommendations for you. It's such a popular place. Really wish I could be of more help with the area attractions.

No worries. I'll just have to report back my findings
Please do. My current wife is wanting me to take her out there. We were going to head out there this summer, but last minute switch and now heading to the Appalachian Mountains. Next time I go, I want to see more of the area and visit some places.

In February Tahoe is all about the snow! A lot of the summer time fun will be closed or inaccessible . North shore has several good resorts and is a little mellow compared to south shore. Stateline has more nightlife then the north shore but is more crowded. I hit the lake several times a year ( an hours drive ) so if you still need input, let me know a little more of what you are looking for and I will try to help.

We are going primarily to snowboard but am looking for some cool spots to visit when we aren't on the slopes. Sightseeing, bars, restaurants, etc.

South lake- Heavenly ski resort is Huge it covers about six mile from cali to the Nevada side, there are condo's ( the ridge is the name I think) that you can walk to the lifts. that is the main resort on south side. Sightseeing there is the lake and a short drive up the west side of Tahoe is Emerald Bay ( a must see ). If you drive to Emerald Bay you could do the hike down to the old vikingsholm house. It sit's right on the bay and is a nice hike. There are trails and beach access all along the lake and surrounding hills. The Dinner cruise of the lake is fun , not sure of the schedule this time of year. Bars and food is everywhere! along the main drag Hit Izzy's for great burgers, The brewery at southlake, or Tahoe brewing company. There are 3 casino's on the main strip and they all have good food and bars. Although Sammy Hagar's Cabo wabo is definitely a favorite.
North Lake- Squaw Valley, Alpine meadows and Northstar are the best resorts to Ski or Board. Sightseeing is a little more limited at the lake due to it being a smaller area then the south side. Donner lake and Truckee are a short drive away and Reno is about 40 minutes. I have not spent much time on the north shore so not sure enough to recommend specific bars or restaurants. The north shore is more laid back then south shore and has a more local feel. I'm sure the food and drink is good, just follow the locals. I do have a friend working a ski shop up that way I can ask about things if that will help.
Personally I think there is a lot more to do in south lake. Shows at the casino's, Buffet's, Gambling, lots of local type dive's, the old estates from the 20-30's.
I hope some of this helps, I can try to get you more detail if you need it.

I want to give @Rubilocal a huge shout out for recommending I check out Emerald Bay during my trip to South Lake Tahoe. Unfortunately the road was closed due to snow fall but we pulled in on the side of the road and hiked in a little bit. One BIG reason for the trip was to tell my girlfriend how I really felt about her.
We left at 4:00am and headed out for the 9 hour drive.

Congratulations! That was a great proposal my man!
I love the part where you both fell coming off the lift chair. I think that's happened to all of us more than once.
