Hello fellow Ham operators,
My neighbor is helping me get started in this new Hobby. He even bought the study manual, so, I would have the current information and resources. How about that for a neighbor? As I am disabled, I have time to study. I do have low voltage electrical knowledge as a background already, from my job as a telephone technician. Worked for CenturyLink, for 13 years. Work over 7 years as an telephone contractor, before that. Really looking forward to getting my Ham license to start enjoying this hobby. Benz.

The HamWhisperer has great videos to prep for technician. They are free too. He actually explains things. Check them out. I don't think I missed any questions on the exam and these videos were the only thing I used to prepare.

I didn't find anything like that for general. I just memorized answers for that one.

With your background, you should have no problem with the electrical component questions on the Technician test. You'll probably have no problem with the General as well.

Search Youtube for "Ham Radio 2.0 New Technician" and then "Ham Radio 2.0 General" to watch recordings of both test training sessions - about 6hrs each. I watched them all in 1.5x speed when I was studying to make it go faster. Unfortunately they don't have an Extra training, so i had to study for that one the old fashioned way.

Good luck!

Thank you Six Actual, soonersfan, brien,
All the help and information is appreciated! We do have a great group of people on this site. I really want to learn the information, not just memorizing the correct answers. Looking forward soon to join the group of Ham operators around the world, and even next door! Benz.

I'm looking to get started in HAM as well, I picked up one of those little Baofeng UVR5+ guys for my emergency camp pack, I think I would rather learn to do it properly and legally. Thanks for the info, people in this thread. See ya out there! (hopefully hear some of you too sometime.)
