Just another week in the Ozarks

Its been quite awhile since I posted a trip report so I figured I would post about my latest trip. I spent another week wandering around the Ozarks in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Spent time on the First Nations trail, the Ozark Overland Adventure trail, the TAT, and did a bunch of wandering.
Here are a few pics in the Hurricane Creek wilderness area.






This is Alum cove. It used to be a big cave until the middle section collapsed and formed a natural bridge.
Nice peaceful place to spend some time.

Here are a couple of my campsites.




This is a water crossing on the First Nations trail. It was way to high to cross due to recent rains. I detoured on the Ozark Overland trail and the crossing there was even worse so I had to do a big reroute on paved roads.


This is Campbell cemetery. Almost all the graves are from the late 1800’s with the latest being 1909. Almost all are infants. A testament to how hard life was back then.



This is the Pruitt access of the Buffalo National River. Last time I was here was when I did a thru hike of the Ozark Highlands trail and the Buffalo River trail.



I had a nice time as I usually do in the Ozarks, Temps were in the 20’s at night and 30’ during the day.
The area below White Mountain overlook was closed due to 2 washouts but other than that the main trails were in good shape.

There are a lot of hidden gems in the Ozarks. I find something new every time.
I was on a mission this time to get to an old Indian cave dwelling that has a bunch of pictographs and petroglyphs. Unfortunately I was I was unable to reach it due to road washouts.

As a relatively new dad, the picture of that headstone hits differently nowadays. Crazy how much times have changed for the better.

Beautiful pictures though! Are there a lot of off-pavement trails in the region?

There are tons of off pavement routes in the Ozarks and probably an equal amount a little south in the Ouachitas.
At times it also seems there is an endless number of cool/interesting/beautiful things to see and do in the region.

Thanks for sharing. I spent my early childhood in AR and my most of my family still lives in southwest AR. I need to make a point to explore the Ozarks when I go back to visit.

There are a lot of really good routes in the area you can download for free. You can find some of them on this site.
