In my quest to remove fuel and water off my roof rack, I found a universal plate from Rotopax and modified it to work with my Smittybilt tire carrier. Pretty simple really.
I drilled 3 holes in the center for the 5x5 lug pattern. Made 3 spacers from 1" round bar stock, primed and painted the spacers, added stainless bolts and washers through the plate, spacers and into the open ended Smitty lug nuts. The spacers are just long enough to not touch the rim, but short enough to allow it to pinch 1/16th" inward to keep it from moving and pressed against the tire. I can double stack two 4G Roto cans horizontal or in my case, two 2G water and 3G fuel cans.
