So I had an idea of taking a Wrangler tire carrier band mounting it to the back with upgraded heavy duty shocks for the hatch. But the manufacturer said that without his mount it may cause damage because his mount has been specifically counter ballanced to stop damage from occurring. I need some input on this, what do you guys think, or do you have any other options, I don't really have the money for a rear bumper. Or should I just mount it to my roof rack like before.

It seems like that would be way too much weight on the hatch. I've seen it done three ways on the XJ. Stowed in the cargo area which leaves no room for any cargo inside. Rear bumper with tire carrier and of course mounted on the roof rack. I chose the Smittybilt XRC rear bumper with tire carrier. It solves the problem and gives you space to carry a 5 gal jerry can (midwest brand only). If I had to do it over again I think I would shop around for a bumper where the tire carrier didn't stick out quit so far. Hope you find a solution that fits your needs as well as your budget!

Bronco II tire carrier has been a popular option from what I have seen on google. I have 33s on mine. I can find ya one easy if you can't get your hands on one just let me know.

The roof rack is not a fun project... and I think my CVT is gonna be too much for this little booger. But the T4R can handle that.

So the one man tent is going to remain the constant for this beater lol... here are some pics.

Looks like you would need to cook up some brackets... looks like some 2 inch flat bar for the hinges, maybe 4x4 or 4x6 paltes for the body reinforcement... i would sammich the body panel... could be made nice. Not smittybuilt nice... but still nice.. and built not bought. tire carrier.PNG Capture.PNG
