This is our Rocky. A 2002 Sahara 4.0L. It’s stock except for some old ranchos, tires, tow bar hitch, and stereo/speakers I Crutchfielded in at a campsite in Elephant Butte one day.

I’m told in a prior life it was responsible for a major traffic jam after its first engine blew up on the Bay Bridge. Rising from that loss at around 120,000 miles, this TJ found a new life as a BART car. It then achieved greatness on a year long trek all over the US West as an ideal tow vehicle and exploration/memory making champion. Despite marking the canvass with an occasional drop of 5W-30, Rocky went the distance every single time, never failing.

Technically my wife’s Jeep but that just means that if she ever tries to sell it, any other buyer except myself will be disqualified from making an offer.

More seriously, before this Jeep I had no real appreciation of just how tough, capable, versatile, fun, and reliable these machines can be.

I do understand.

Great thread! I just joined up and became a member. My Frankenjeep TJ8 is almost ready to roll... been working on it for better than a year now. Once she's rolling and reliable, I look forward to many miles of smiles.

My son just bought his first vehicle, and it was a real find. It is a 2004 Grand Cherokee with a V8 and only 103k miles on it. There is no rust and the interior is perfect. We're just going through it and fixing things and getting all maintenance up to date, but once it is paid for, he says he'll put a mild lift on it, some slightly larger AT tires (30") and a roof basket. He loves the looks of overlanding rigs and loves to get off the beaten path. It will be a fun project for us in the coming months and years. (We've already taken off those side steps)
