For the hood latch tab, I used a steel plate from a large U-bolt. The cable was clear vinyl covered 3/16" aircraft cable. Grabbed some lockable links to allow for disconnecting the limb risers. Added the cable clamps and aluminum turnbuckle rod. Drilled a hole in the steel U-bolt plate to get it to fit the hood latch bolts. Painted them black. Used Firestik CB antenna mirror mounts for the upper anchors mounted to my Gobi roof rack. Painted them black.

Once the upper and lower mounts were in place, I assembled the links and turnbuckles. I crimped the upper cable end and used heat shrink. Then I put the cable through the turnbuckle eye, pulled it tight, folded it back, and marked it for cutting. I cut the cable to length, crimped it, and heat shrinked it. Finally, I adjusted the turnbuckles to tension the cables. I added heat shrink around the lower clamp threads to prevent my hood paint from getting scratched when opening the hood, since the threads are sharp. Done!

Update: After hundreds of miles in Death Valley, the washboards made me realize I needed to add a jam nut to each turnbuckle. The constant vibration kept backing off the turnbuckles a little, resulting in a loss of cable tension. I had to hand tighten them once per day. A jam nut per turnbuckle will solve that issue.

I would consider extending the hood anchor point up a little higher. I’m worried actual contact with some tree kinds is going to deflect that lower connector medially enough to contact & scratch your hood. Overall, looks great!

I think an easier way would be to bend the tabs more toward vertical. So far after hits from a few branches, the cables deflect a bit but not enough to cause issues. The branches tend to take the path of least resistance, which is sliding upward.

My limb risers are a lot like yours, but maybe even closer to the hood. On this particular trip, we got a lot of pinstripes. The risers worked great, and never touched the hood.84D84D10-D916-4CF1-BA08-FE72439D19E4.jpeg40C605DD-58E2-4B91-8631-591424E072F7.jpeg
