Jeep JK dual battery question

So, I run a fridge daily but only commute about 4 Miles. At the end of my 12 hour shifts at work my inverter is shut off, assuming due to low battery left, and my fridge is off. I’d like to add another battery to my setup. Here’s the problem, I’m already running a switch pod off of the m6 fuse. I want to be able to isolate my second battery and only charge it when the vehicle is charging is this able to be done without adding a relay box or something along those lines? If not, can I just wire a second battery to my main battery? I feel like a second battery would add enough juice that the inverter wouldn’t die. I take longer trips around once a week(commute 45 mins or so) and that would top off both batteries. My Jeep is a 2018 Rubi. I’m not running anything other than the switch pod, one LED light bar, 400w inverter, and my alpicool 35 fridge.

I recently installed the Genesis Off Road dual battery system. I know it's a bit pricey but it definitely makes it a no brainer when trying to figure all that electrical stuff out.

+1 for the Genesis. I installed mine about 2 months ago. I used two Odyssey PC1500 Extremes. My fridge pretty much killed the factory battery since it is not made for extreme discharge/recharge cycles. Mine is a '17 JKURHR. It took me just under two hours to do the entire installation. Haven't had a problem since and I've run my fridge pretty much daily since then. But I am also driving more than 8 miles per day. With that short commute of yours it may be a good idea to look at a solar panel that can recharge your accessory battery too.

I run a Genesis dual battery kit with two Odyssey Extreme PC1500 batteries in my JKUR. I have a lot of lighting and a Dometic CFX-50 fridge on board. For the most part, it’s trouble free. When base camping and not starting the Jeep, I hang a solar panel to trickle charge. Or, just start her up once every two days. If you run her down and it won’t start, push the temporary in-series button that bridges power from both batteries and the Jeep will fire right up.

I agree the Genesis dual battery kit is the best way to go that’s what I run in my JKUR Too, I also have a third battery running into the secondary system for my trailer which is a marine style battery I run a Domestic CFX-65 fridge and all the comfort items and base camping for up to 4 days with no charging and as posted earlier I’m looking into solar too

I also have a dual bat kit with odyssey extremes. I had a dometic cfx75, my commute is about 5 miles one way. Eventually my batteries died. I ended going with a smaller dometic cfx28 which should be here on Tuesday. I will get a solar panel at some point to keep it charged.20180318_094834.jpeg
