Jawbone to Lake Isabella 1/28/17

Decided to do a quick run before heading back for a birthday party. Jawbone Canyon to Lake Isabella. We didn't make it all the way. Original plan was to camp at Saddle Spring CG, but by the time we got to Piute Mountain, the trail was steep with deep snow. Couldn't make it up. Would've taken forever just winching and maxtrax'ing back and forth. It appeared no one had been through that part of the trail yet as the snow was still fresh and all other tire tracks ended quite a whiles back. We turned around and found a great camp spot on a little hill. Got to try out the maxtrax and they did great.

Nice pics, looks like a fun trail run.
I guess you went prepared with all the cold weather gear but I'm curious, how did your RTT do in the cold? And by that I guess I mean, how cold was it and how was it unfolding and working with the cold bits, canvas, straps, etc.
Did you notice anything that was worse because of the cold?

Good on you for getting out there, I think many are envious of our ability to get out to places like this even in January!

The larger white dog looks very suspicious of the photographer.

We have a 20 degree sleeping, you can still feel the chill. Layer up and added an extra throw and it was fine, but my nose kept freezing up not being under the sleeping bag. The chill wasn't bad, having even a slight breeze along with it sucks though. Everything is ice cold to the touch the next morning. I didn't find it bothersome to pack up the gear because I waited for the sun to rise and light up the whole area before even starting to pack up.

Nice vid! You were having too much fun going through the water. Looks like you really put your Matrax to use. Pretty crazy how easy it is to get stuck

It was indeed fun. The maxtrax were used just once and that was my first time using them, already worth it! Could have winched myself out, but I feel the winch is the last resort. Yeah, was trying to park by the tree and didn't realize there is a small ditch between the trail and field, soon all 4 tires were spinning in the snow. We finally aired down a little further down as the snow got deeper.

This is one of my favorite trails. The meadows and windmills are amazing up there in the spring.
