I recently purchased a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD OFF road double cab long bed with a leer shell already on it. I then purchased a single piece of 1/2 inch plywood and some 2x6 and built a bed platform and two 4 foot drawer under the platform. This cost about 100 dollars in wood and 80 dollars for a 4inch foam double size mattress.

I now have a functional very off road capable camper set up to Overland with. Don't be afraid to start simple and grow from there. The most important thing is to get out there because we all know adventure is necessary!

Started like that with my 85 Toy 4X4 with a shell many years ago. Went all over the Southwest and Baja with it. Now, with a wife, kids and a dog in my Sequoia, I miss those simpler days sometimes...

I agree it doesn't even take that much. I've been doing this kinda thing for almost 50 years and I've pretty much done it all and own hammocks and multiple tents as well as another Tacoma with a pop up camper .

I guess the take away is just Do it .
