Part of the motivation for the hitch upgrade.

where my driveway crosses the crown of the sidewalk.

Also an FYI for those who haven’t tried a recovery yet. The front points on my Hoe, and other GM rigs too perhaps, are recessed in the fascia far enough that D ring shackles are a no go. Invest in some soft shackles of suitable rating.

Not only 2WD, but with a twist. My overlanding rig was a highway patrol interceptor in is former life. It’s complete with a police suspension, including a 3 inch drop, a G80 rear locker, and speed rated tires. It’s fun on and off road.

So far, I’ve done several tours through the Texas hill country, gone to Wyoming and Utah, and had lots of fun.View attachment 139662View attachment 139663View attachment 139664View attachment 139665View attachment 139666View attachment 139667

I bought this rig specifically for camping before I learned about overlanding. I assumed I’d built drawers of some sort, but received a happy surprise. Texas DPS left the weapon locker and cargo barrier in place when they sold it to me.

I looked at the link you sent for the shelving unit a little wide for my jeep. Since you have one do you think it could be cut in half?

I actually got to do some hot pursuit today.

A new project I’m working on involves some trackside infrastructure. After the meeting the owner invited us to take some laps on the racetrack. It was a lot of fun to chase a cop car in my own cop car.

Sorry, I missed this. Actually many of them could be cut down in some fashion.

the particular ones I saw for auction were all pulled before the auction ended. I’m guessing DPS or another agency still had need for them.

I recently picked up a second Tahoe to use for a daily driver, so thecopcar can get a little more developed for overlanding and camping. Both are GMT900 generation, so I can do some common mods, and definitely maintenance. While both are PPV models, I’m leaning towards calling the new one thenewhoe. My wife has chosen to name it Lola.

Lola was a K-9 unit previously, so is missing the rear seat and door panels. Just the excuse I need to fully do a rear seat delete on thecopcar.

Theres also a weapons locker left in place. My mind is thinking...

I Like the Lola “thenewhoe”. I can’t wait to see what happens to her as well as the large plans for “Hot Pursuit”.

Congrats on the new rig. What all do you have planned for your main tahoe?

Today I got Way ambitious. Lola got the seats out of thecopcar. I had planned that. To do that I had to get the weapon locker out because the mounting brackets used the seat bolts. I only wanted to move the seats once.

You can see Lola still has the radio console in place. I still need to make a faceplate. There aren’t any manufacturer labels on it.

Captain Fuzzball did a QC check. To make sure that K9 wasn’t hiding anywhere.

Then the ambition kicked in. Why don’t I pull the old weapon locker out of thecopcar too. And since these things are huge sitting on furniture dollies, put the cool one in thecopcar. The lockers are both aluminum but the black one is significantly lighter. It’s made of different weight material.

Wrapping up the day shots of thecopcar.

5he new locker is in place. I really like the drawers on this one. I retained the cargo barrier because it’s convenient to mount stuff and I’m averse to getting smacked from behind. 00DA7752-FCF3-43CB-860E-8210E02E71B6.jpegFCF2945A-ECAE-4AA5-B62F-93E673B4924E.jpeg59022908-ADE6-4900-8611-13A8B472EDDA.jpeg3CB8F063-1B97-4D71-BAE3-403E4467D559.jpeg

In Texas ham radio operators can have call sign plates on up to three vehicles.

There's more in store for sure. I'm letting needs make themselves known over time to guide me.
