Ice Pack In Fridge

Just wondering if anyone ever puts a frozen ice pack in your 12 volt fridge.

Having a block of frozen ice pack in the fridge may let the fridge cycle less is my thought.

Not particularly as the ice pack would use valuable space for food/drinks. Now I’ve been known to freeze meals going in the bottom of my fridge that are for later in the trip. Turns a steak or chili into an ice block to help maintain temps.

I rotate the frozen packs from my CSI freezer/fridge to my roto-molded cooler. There is a separate refrigerator compartment also. Worked good on a ten day trip to the Ozarks last fall.

I freeze a 12 pack of water and put it in my cooler. That way I always have cold water and it does not make a mess as it melts. I very rarely put ice directly in my cooler.

I've put frozen items in my fridge and had them not thaw. I do however try not to put warm things in even though it cools them down fast when I do.

That goes without saying. Always get things to temp before packing the cooler.

If you have room, an ice pack is better than air for sure.

I do, but I only have a coleman powerchill at the moment. But it does work.

My Jeep has the smaller battery under the main starter battery for running lights and electronics during the auto start stop feature. I do have a battery pack that I plug my ARB fridge into while at camp. Just came back from a 2 night trip with battery power to spare.

Now we are headed out on a 4 night trip and I have a feeling the battery won't last. We are planning on resupply half way through, but I think I need to start looking at solar options. Thanks for the replies.
