Hot Plate VS induction cooktop

I dont own an induction cooktop but do have a hot plate and it uses 600 watts to run and It works just fine with my 1000 watt inverter and it works well for me I don't have to have any special pots or anything.
So anyone else using just a hot plate instead of an induction cooktop has anyone had the glass top brake on em?

good point about the glass top on an induction...
we use an induction, BUT we only use it on trips where we take one of the camp trailers and it will be protected pretty well. when we go desert camping out of the back of the pick up, we take a propane stove that can take some abuse. im sure i could make a special protective box for it or even find a pelican type case for it, but since we already have several propane stoves, might as well just use them on the rougher trips...but yeah, the glass top would be something to consider when taking it on trips. i havent used an old school hot plate since back in the 80s, but they are pretty durable and might be more robust than an induction burner. at least the induction is a lot easier to clean after you have a boil over...

someone needs to get an induction burner and drop test it and let us know the results... @Dave in AZ ?

Well, tons of folks are running these induction for years now 4x4 bumping, I've never seen a post about one breaking. Frigging corelle glass is similar, that will last to the heat death of the universe! Seriously, every window in camper shells proves this is a non ussue.

Hot plates... can be a decent solution. However, at just $80 for the induction, faster heating, and higher energy use efficiency, I feel there's no reason to use the hotplate. Ferrous pans are plentiful and cheap, you probably already have 10. In fact, I'd by far use a HOT SKILLET, one with embedded heat, than a hotplate you need a pan for. I'll make a video showing that those old 1960s skillets with heating elements are more efficient than hotplates, and lighter. Not as good as the induction. I have a bunch of them for my kittle guest casita and have used them, an electric wok, etc, and the induction is better. But yeah, you for sure can beat on those old self heating pans!

Interesting about the self heating pans I will have to see if I can find one at a thrift store the ones I have seen in the past were a very large size much to big for my needs I have not seen one in a few eons LOL
maybe Amazon has cheap ones..

This kind of thing. Super cheap, $25, nonstick, can be used as pot ot frypan. Because heating element is embedded in bottom, very high efficiency. So cheap you can't go wring, throw it away if it gets sticky. Good for electric cooking

thanks for sending me down ANOTHER rabbit hole! i got looking at electric skillets on amazon and found this infared burner. guess i'll have to buy one and try it out and then we can add infared to the list..

That’s great that your 600-watt hot plate works well with your 1000-watt inverter! Hot plates are a solid alternative to induction cooktops. I haven't had a glass top break, but curious—does yours heat evenly without any issues?
