Hello all, my name is Russ Miller and I’m glad to be a new member of Overland Bound! I’m an East Bay native my entire life and I’ve been Overlanding since the late 1970’s... Back then it was called Car Camping. I started with a 1974 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser that took me on many adventures in Death Valley National Monument (as it was called back then) and the Mojave Desert. I later had a 1986 Isuzu Trooper II and then a 1993 Trooper. I now drive a 2014 Subaru Forester that has taken me on many adventures, the last being a 3700 mile round trip in January 2020 through the Southwest visiting 8 National Parks with my daughter Lily. So far I’ve been to 35 National Parks if you let me count Monument Valley...

Last year I took the Forester on a solo adventure in Death Valley and after running the road out to the Racetrack I’ve come to the conclusion that I might have to get myself back into a Land Cruiser. I‘ve been looking at a lightly used LX 470 so don’t be surprised if I show up in that at a future meet-up.

Russ! Land Cruiser all the way! Now @Michael loves to say it truly doesn’t matter what you drive BUT a Land Cruiser will get you much further...till you run out of gas :)

I am the Bay Area member rep and I can help connect you to meet ups that are happening near you. In Pleasanton CA there is a meet up on the second Sunday’s of the month and it has a great regular turn out and active. The Tri-Valley (Pleasanton) group has number of plans already laid out for March, April, and beyond! Our next meet up is Saturday April 11th, 1-3pm at the Gay Nineties Pizza Co in Pleasanton CA. Normally we meet the second Sunday, but it’s Easter :)

This is the regular meet up info

Well I have to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for Land Cruisers. Our 80 has been very dependable...until it wasn't...now it is again.

Welcome Russ!
