But now that the prototype is done, and I set on my "Ponder Stool" in the garage and ponder the next step, I realize that the upper part of the cover could simply be attached to the bottom of the folding part of the RTT. More 2.5" flat aluminum around the perimeter and just like the bottom section, the sides attached to this aluminum.

The ladder would need to be removable or exposed to the weather as it would now sit outside of the cover.

But this new idea would solve the issue of how to store the cover. And more importantly lower the whole front section of the tent by nearly 4".....making it even more aerodynamic.

And it would allow the fron section facing the wind to be curved.....

Stay tuned for "RTT Prototype....The Sequel"

Takes some time and planning to do, I know, and you've done some interesting work here. Cool to see it in wood first. I'm thinking of doing one out of MDO and living with it for awhile to see how it holds up.

Love watching the progress and development on this type of project. Here's another good one that, while though a wedge design, may give you some ideas: Tired of all the same huge RTTs, so I made my own .

Roaddude....I had seen your RTT a while ago. Fantastic! I was thinking about building my own but a fantastic deal came along for this Smittybily and I couldn't walk away. I just hate the cover. A real pain to put on when my RTT is nearly 8' up in the air.

Version 2. with the cover attached to the bottom will be the winner.

Ohh, no, the one in the link is not mine, just a build I pointed to I thought you might find interesting. I'd like to know more about his front hinge arrangement, though, and just how he bonded the tent fabric to the shell.
