If you are on Facebook feel free to join the Texas Off Road Amateur Radio group, we (Oklahoma and Texas groups) have a camp trip the first weekend of May in southern Oklahoma. Just a get together to set up portable radios, try new antennas, etc. Hoping to do something for Field day next year as well if all goes well.AG5VN here. Currently have a yaesu ft 857 in the shack, a tyt 9800 in the jeep and a yaesu ftm-400 in my truck

That sounds great. I'm not a facebooker but I'll get my wife to sign up. Mic fright is pretty common. If any local clubs have a weekly net try checking into it. They generally just want to know your call sign, name, and location. If it's a round table net they go down the list of check ins and give you a chance to say something. If it's an info net, they take your info and then put out any pertinent info for the week.So far its fun listening, but haven't worked up the nerve to check into any nets yet.

I am going to try and join the NET for sure!! I will be at work (I'm a Firefighter/paramedic so I should be able to get on pending anyone calling 911 lol) I have never used an echolink repeater before though and I am not exactly sure how to use it to get on. According to Repeaterbook I have a 2m echolink repeater nearby. Do I just use the repeater as normal??Everyone, I will be your NET Controller tomorrow night for the Overland Bound weekly NET. Please join us on the Echolink Node at 5:30pm pst. Topic will be 2020 Overland trip planning. See you there. W7BR

You can get a hold of the repeater owner and find out what codes or tones are needed to access the echolink system on the repeater. The node number is in the meet up info (sorry don't have it handy). You can also download the app for phone or computer and set it up. It usually takes about 15 min to get everything working so don't wait till last min if you go that route. Look forward to hearing you on the NET tomorrow night. BrentI am going to try and join the NET for sure!!
