Building a GX470 as a project. Have not done a lot but it works very well. I put some 265:75:17 on it and a 2 1/2 inch oldan emu lift kit with some equalizer spacers. Have not finished my roof platform but I am making progress. So no really like any except the rhino platform but by the time I make my mods I might as well build the whole thing.
Just finished my weld on rock sliders
Made some 4x4 plates out of 1/8 strap, cut up some 2x2 .120 wall steel tube and had my buddy weld it up. Worked great and strong as hell. After I get back from Moab I will nend up some 1 1/2 thick wall DOM tube and put on the square tube. Need some step for my wife and to get to the rack on top.
Here are some pics.

This is going to be a trail vehicle, not a poser, not really worried about reverting to street. I really like the dam thing. Have a really bad ass jeep, great for local trails but I got a little carried away and over 200 miles is a chore. Trailer or stay home. I just wanted something that was trail capable but comfortable as hell, good manners and reasonable ability. I have already done more than my share of rock crawling, bought a unimog to get stupid but have decided what I really like to do is travel. Hate staying more than 2 nights in one spot. Last year I did the trans america trail on a Triumph 1200 xc and this is more comfortable, not sure about the fun. Was an amazing trip. I am building the GX for an Alaska run and a Baja run. The GX will pull my glamping trailer some really stupid places and I get to do some very nice back country touring.

Still have to organize the trailer, not to sure what I want to do, Moab and Overland Expo will help with that. I am trying to keep the GX light as possible, some big conflicts there. I guess a behind the stock bumper winch with a rope will have to do for the front. Maybe a tube rear bumper.
Will probably install a rear electric locker but so far I have been very impressed with the electric traction control. Tire rotates twice and axle locks up.

Have not tried to find the limits and probably won't. I am sure I will inadvertently find them. I have installed some arb skid plates for the occasional bump, probably need a rear diff plate but I have heard that I might need to upgrade the rear axle. Time will tell. I always do tires, suspension, bash plates and sliders, then as I break stuff I upgrade it.

Having fun so far.

Looks great! I cant wait to see the progress. I have a GX and have similar plans/expectations. My sliders are currently sitting in my garage waiting to be welded on and will be doing lift/tires shortly after.

How do you like your OME setup? I assume you went with nitrochargers (not BP51).

GX does very well, sliders were helpful on Hells Revenge in Moab. Dropped the tire pressure to 20 and traction and track lok was amazing
Kept telling the jeepers O was lost looking for Starbucks
After the first obstacle I was warned not to do and proceeded to do easily everyone just watched. I was very impressed. Have just about decided I can go about anywhere, biggest constraints are clearance and no body damage.
Think I picked the right platform

These are really starting to grow on me. How’s the cargo area? I’m figuring similar to a FJ

I have been looking at the GX a lot here lately. The one reason I haven’t made the plunge is the rear cargo area. I have been spoiled be the cargo area of a suburban and the third row. But I have learned that there is almost 3 foot of no mans land lol. Can’t reach it from the back or the front. I’m also working with 4 total people (Wife, 2 kids, and myself). I just need to spend some time going over one and taking some measurements.
