My name is Hank and I am addicted to the outdoors.... I hunt, fish, camp, hike and overall enjoy being out in nature. My camping expereience started in Boy Scouts and has progressed over the years from tents to campers but my love is split between truck camping and kayak/hammock camping.

Hi Hank, Jordan here.

I'm in the Syracuse area.

Been lurking a while here, saw your CNY post and figured I might as well register to say hi.
Been in the state for some time, but I'm not a NY native, so the last few years I've been building my list of great places to take the kayak for fishing.

More recently have been starting to get into the camping here. I have a ways to go on that front, because jamming myself in between 100 other campers at a run-down state park is not really my idea of camping. I grew up doing a lot of camping/fishing in Idaho and Montana, and plan on passing that onto my boys (6 and 7). It's going to take some time to build a good list of places to explore, but slowly making progress. I'll probably do a lot of scouting for new areas when the weather breaks, and fit in more ice fishing in the meantime!

I happened to be researching that exact area again on google earth, when you sent that message! What are the chances of that. I meant to scout it out in person last fall, but didn't get the chance.

It is an awesome location. Tons of seasonal dirt roads and island campsites! I try to hit them up at least twice a summer! Brown Tract Pond is also a great one. It is a state campground but they have some exterior sites that are out of the park along a dirt road that are free in the off season. I am looking to hit up the north end of Big Moose Road this summer as well.

Welcome guys! Hank, there's a thread on hammock camping around here somewhere! When I'm out somewhere alone, I throw my hammock gear in the X and just use it since it's easier than dealing with our 4 man tent by myself.

That's a pretty similar setup to what I have. I just added a ridgeline last fall but I've been too busy to give it an actual test beyond just going out to a local campsite with a friend and just "hanging" around for a while.
