Hey everyone,

Air Force guy here. Just moved to California from Texas a few months ago, grew up in a small town in Indiana though. I bought a 2018 Wrangler Sport S (nearly stock still) about 6ish months ago and have been itching to start going off the beaten path a bit with some dispersed camping. The vehicle is a daily driver so I won't be completely outfitting it for off-roading, but I do want to get a decent setup for some remote location camping with my dog, 3 kids and wife.

I've been researching on my home and losing sleep, figured I'd join and swallow as much knowledge as I can from you all.

A little bit about me: Well, I'm still active duty, been in roughly 8ish years. I work in radiology, was an X-ray/CT technologist but then got picked up to do the IT side of it called "PACS" just google it, it's easier lol.

I have a bunch of hobbies, but i"m a master of none. So I do a lot of high-end vehicle detailing (think polishing, ceramic coating, etc), but I'm also quite the nerd. My 'workstation/gaming' rig is a monster build. I still play video games when I can to mellow out and clean vehicles to stay away from the computer.

I'm also a web developer, been doing that for about 12 years now. I specialize in mostly UI design/front-end development & mostly do project management anymore. It pays me better than being in the military, but I love what I do for the military and plan on taking it to at least 20.

Lastly, I've always been outdoorsy, but where I grew up, there wasn't much more to see than cornfields and some wooded areas. It wasn't bad, but I like seclusion, living off the land a bit and so on. I just spent a bunch of money to refresh the camping gear and make it all fit comfortably in the jeep with space really being a premium.

That's enough about me

Happy to be here!

Heya Dylan, welcome to OB from an AF vet! I used to live in South Bend for a couple years when I was very young, that's where my Grandparents lived & my Dad grew up. Grandparents lived within view of Notre Dame stadium. I have lots of fond memories. I, myself, grew up in a suburb of Sacramento, so I'm a (ex) CA boy. The Sierras and their foothills are a great playground with tons of places to explore. I was fond of the Desolation Wilderness area & kayaking the N. Fork of the American (Colfax -> Yankee Jim's... google it!)

Anyway, welcome to the forum! It's a big one & takes some time to get used to but there's a lot of great info & people to help ya out. Enjoy your new rig, CA & OB!

Nice to know. I'm from a small town. Think John "Cougar" Mellencamp's song "Smalltown" that would also be mine. In fact, my mom/aunt's used to run around with him when they were younger/in school.

Isn't it John "don't call me Cougar" Mellencamp?

That's a cool story!!

Thank you everyone! I just did a small dispersed camping trip in Mendocino NF this weekend. About to post a couple pics. Easy trail for beginners/stock jeeps like myself.
