Glympse is a free smart phone app that allows you to show someone (or multiple someones) your location and progress, in real time, whether or not they have the app as well. If you both have the app, you can track each other's progress. It's especially handy if you need to rendezvous with someone, or if you're in a caravan. Check it out.

We use that all the time with BBM. It's a feature within BBM itself as well. When I'm out and about I share my location with my wife. I also share it with my family when we're on our way to visit them so they can see our progress and we don't get a text every hour asking us where we are, lol.

(FYI, BBM is available on all smartphones and is a good solid app)
