So I planned on trying to mount by MAXTRAX to the roof rack (common placement) in which I decided against. After throwing them in the back of the truck for a while and getting tired of the space, however small, they took up. I have to admit that I nearly lost it and drilled holes into my hood.. not recommended btw. I can be pretty crafty at times and with a little nudge from my wife I jumped onto FB marketplace and found a pair of old universal roof rack bars. A little TLC and a trip to Lowe's later and tada, I have them mounted to my hood. All at the cost of 2 inches of visibility. :grin:View attachment 112145

Sorry, I own a Tacoma and that location I'm just not a fan of. It looks like you lose more than 2 inches by far. I'm considering a grille mounted camera for cresting hills and steep terrain. I can only imagine how much road you aren't able to see right in front of your rig. I'm a big safety kid . Just my opinion.

Hehe. I never seen them carried there before. Do you notice any glare? Pretty unique. You will have to update us after using them and loading them back on. I would be curious to hear as I always hated remounting on the roof after they got weighed down with clay etc.
Good outside of the box thinking!

I have taken them on trips already, specifically on the Ozark Rally. They work great, little to no glare. Handles well in highway speeds too. Only issue is that after use of mud, I use my wipers a little more often for some time.

I actually lose very little view. The size of the window and slight adjustment to my seat, thankfully I'm short, and I can see just as good. Cresting hills have been no issue for me.

Bonus points for thinking outside the box. If it was strictly for trail use it may be okay but not my first choice.

My main concern would be all that hardware coming through the windshield in an accident. Living where we do hitting a deer, or worse an Elk, is pretty common. The last one buckled my wife’s hood, and crushed her windshield among other things.

It was a thought. Due to the area I live in, NC, there isn't much concern with decent size deer that could cause that amount of damage. I have looked into areas as I have done travel and good news that if needed, the racks are completely removable from the hood.

Just remember all the old off roaders with full size tyres mounted on the hood!

Nice!

Though I'd be concerned about whether it's legal or not in some places.

I have looked it up for my state and the surrounding states and there isn't anything against it. Just as long as it doesn't take up more that 40% of my viewing space.
