This is a 4 day and 4 Night trip leaving Wednesday evening (after work) June18th and returning Sunday June 22nd.

Ebbs,
I saw you Ghost River trip posted on OB and would like to tag along if I may.
This would be my first OB trip and I not completely sure how to participate.
I am always looking to make new Overlanding buddies and would like to get more involved in OB
I have everything on the required equipment list and have experience overlanding.
Please let me know what I need to do to get on the list for your Ghost River trip.
Thank you.

Hi Aaron! If you are on your phone, click the orange circle with the three lines. That will open up the RSVP. On the computer, the RSVP button is below the title. Click on the attendees tab and it should show you on the list. Brandon is an awesome leader and plans great trips. If you have other questions, please ask. We are a fun group and everyone will help. Erin

Hey Aaron looks like Erin got you squared away on RSVP'ING, in the details I listed some items that I consider necessities, dust lights, preferably amber and as high as you can mount is one of the biggest. Other than that, full sized spare, recovery gear, recovery points front and rear, and Most important... A good attitude and willingness to enjoy the adventure!
Oh and since we're crossing borders... A passport or other acceptable documentation!

I’m really looking forward to it.
The only thing on the list I don’t have is the chase light, and im working on that now. We’ll be ready to go by the step off date.
Thanks for the invitation. I’m looking forward to meeting you.

Awesome! We did a similar route in reverse last year in October, this will be a little more direct than that, but the area is absolutely gorgeous. Roads were dusty, hence the importance of dust lights, but I'm hoping it might be a little less dusty early in the season.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, ask away (or message me directly if you want). and charge up your camera batteries (or clear memory on your phones lol)

Pretty stoked I just bought a new drone and should have it by next week. my cheap drone was a little schizo and had a unhealth attraction to trees. new one has much better software and 360* obstacle avoidance. and MUCH better image quality. couldn't have picked a better location to shoot than the Canadian Rockies!

Another note. Please remember this trip is into Bear country. so please have a plan for your protection (highly recommend bear spray, and keep a couple, and one on your person at all times) and a plan for your garbage. you will not be able to just leave a garbage back on the ground (never a good idea) or even hanging on the back of your rig. either bring it into your rig, or hang it from a tree with some 550 cord.

Still to early for any real weather forecast, but even when it does come, I'd plan for a little colder at night than the nearest forecast will say.

Last point, does everyone have navigation software? I have the route ready, just adding a couple more way points for Airing up/Down, and maybe some POIs. I can help you import and save offline maps for this. I find having the route can really help reduce some anxiety as well as if we get turned around unexpectedly by something, we can all be sure the plan.

oh and @PapaDave somewhat pre-ran the route (went into Calgary vs going into the Ghost River Valley) and all went well. T-22 to departure day.

They will ask you at the border if you have bear spray. Just so you know you have to be registered I believe in Canada to purchase it there.

When we are driving through Kooteney Park, we saw a grizzly and a black bear and a moose along the highway within 30 minutes. That was around marble Canyon Campground for reference.

asked you as in they would take it if you brought it in? or just as a reminder that it's a good idea? and do you mean you have to be registered in Canada to purchase bear spray in Canada?
they never asked when we went last year (or 2023) and we carried the same cans from spokane...wonder if something changed. (and probably need to check the expiration dates on my bear spray... Dave wanna help me test out the effectiveness? LOL)

I am no man’s bear. Yes they asked us and would have taken it and I just said I didn’t have any, but there might have been some under my seat. I would not go into Canada without it.

Just a little over 2 weeks to go. @Buzzbee17 @Nklxwcyz @Bodge Garage @Aaron Knox @Jeb
I had put this as leaving on the 18th from Landcaster Market in Hayden (meet at 630, leave by 7)... drive for 2hrs and camp near the boarder. Then leave early, say by 8 the next morning. (guesstamating a 8-9hr day of driving with stops, so Camp by 4 or 5pm) is everyone ok with that? or would you rather just leave on the 19th early (thinking like 6or 630 meetup, Departure no later than 30 min after meetup). (guesstamating a 11-12hr day of driving with stops, so Camp by 5-6pm)

my thought process is this, we are going into some GORGEOUS country, and I want to make sure folks don't feel too rushed to stop and take pictures. We have a drive ahead of us either way, but a 2hr head start by camping near the boarder can make a difference. Fortunately we're headed north and sunset in Banff will be 10pm so we won't be setting up in the dark regardless (barring a breakdown or other unfortunate events)

My thought is a 11-12 hour drive is on the long side. Even with a small group it doesn't leave much wiggle room for the unexpected. Up for whatever the group decides.
Now I just need to deal with my RTT by then.

I’m good with departure at 7:00pm on the 18th and camping near the border that night.

I should also add that if we need we can leave wed night at any time that everyone is ready. Nat (my wife) won't be home until 530 so 630 is the earliest I could leave from Lancaster Market. but if we need to push later for someone for whatever reason we can do that... just let me know!

I might pull out of this one. The new tent showed up damaged so I refued it.
Given that this was a 5 truck limit I don't want to take someones place that wants to go.

don't worry about the limit. if we had a full list and had folks messaging me it'd be different, but we're good.

Sucks about the tent! hopefully they can get it turned around in a reasonable timeframe! All the spots I intend to camp will have plenty of room for the gazelle if push comes to shove
