Got my badge, got my membership, but haven’t actually gone anywhere yet. That will change after this coming weekend. Nothing hard or fancy, but it will be my very first overlanding trip! Heading to Chillicothe, Ohio for Ohio Jeepfest. Currently building a sleeping platform for inside the wrangler. Looking forward to spending the night in it. Next year hopefully I can upgrade to a RTT. Hope to post pics here of this mini-adventure. Badge will be going on jeep once I have officially spent the night in it!

Full size air mattress will fit fine with no mods in a 4 door wrangler. I am 6' 1" and had just enough room for the wife and I(and a german shepherd).
This is what my wife and I use... no platform needed. Just make sure the front seats are all the way forward to ensure you have the maximum room and the rear seat heads lay flat. Also, fill the air mattress in place, don't fill it then try to squeeze it in.

Right on! Nothing your first trip. :)

If you don't already have a comfy sleeping pad you can check Home Depot or equivalent big box hardware store for a 24"×72"×3" memory foam pad. For $25 it will get you by until you get a RTT. If you decide you prefer sleeping in the cab then the REI Camp Dreamer air matress is crazy comfortable! We tested it against the very popular Xped Duo and found the REI brand to be much more comfy. Pricey for sure but can you put a price on a good nights sleep? We use the double version of this mattress on top of the crummy memory foam pad that comes in the RTT.

The memory foam pad at Home Depot. I bet you can find it on Amazon too.

First Overland trip in the books! Spent the 5th of July at Ohio Jeepfest in Chillicothe, Ohio. Had a great time! I appreciate all the advice on the air mattresses, but I had the scrap lumber already, so I made a sleeping platform for the jeep. It worked out pretty well. I do need to get a better sleeping pad though. My thin self-inflating camping mattress just didn’t cut it. I will also be able to lower the platform about 2 inches, to give me a little more headroom without sacrificing storage space. It was an extremely warm day and evening. Day time high was around 94 with about 90% humidity. Nighttime wasn’t much different. Temp got down to about 78. I kept the windows cracked and had a small camping fan which kept it pretty comfortable. I do believe though that i’m Now leaning towards an overlanding trailer versus a RTT. I saw several trailers at the festival that were very nice and relatively inexpensive. The big selling point for me was once my camp was set up, my jeep was not going anywhere unless I put it all away. Even though it would take only 5 minutes to disassemble my sleeping platform, it still seemed like a bother. After we had set up our camps, many people with campers or trailers went for a nighttime trail ride. The other thing that concerns me about a RTT is the higher center of gravity. I do like to take the jeep on some pretty rough trails. So for now, I’m leaning towards a trailer. All in all it was a great experience and I’m looking forward to the next adventure! I now feel like I can officially put my badge on.DA46DC90-C0B9-4826-9345-02D851DF87E5.jpegB2939210-1AA8-45C2-81FC-1DD6E18B83E2.jpegB65D94CB-7F8A-4211-8ED9-63B3B66B3AE4.jpegBFE435E6-FEA4-4E8E-86B3-D6F566F0D157.jpeg4D3C981D-9B86-4188-954D-9027C27E8A31.jpegDA46DC90-C0B9-4826-9345-02D851DF87E5.jpegB2939210-1AA8-45C2-81FC-1DD6E18B83E2.jpegB65D94CB-7F8A-4211-8ED9-63B3B66B3AE4.jpegBFE435E6-FEA4-4E8E-86B3-D6F566F0D157.jpeg4D3C981D-9B86-4188-954D-9027C27E8A31.jpeg
