It was funny, we walked in and said we had bought the family pass at the buffalo jump that morning. The old timer manning the desk said "I know" the buffalo jump guide had called. I said do you need to see my receipt, old timer "no, enjoy your visit."
I love small town America.

Went through the Clack museum pretty quick. Tried to do the underground Havre tour but they were booked due to a bus stopping. Headed towards Chinook a few miles east. But I've done that section of 2 lots of times and this trip is about taking the interesting route, my wife doesn't agree whole heartedly with this philosophy but I was driving.
Headed southeast from Havre.

The old D6 cable blade brought back some fond memories of my teenage years and my dad. I was cheap labor for my dad's logging business and set a lot of chokers behind a D8 cable blade my dad had. When he got a second D8, with hydraulics, I was promoted to cat skinner on the cable blade. I think I was 17 when I tipped it over on a job. My punishment was pulling hundreds of feet of cable and a few block and tackles up and down several hundred feet of steep hillside from the truck road and down to the Cat. Had to go up and down about 6 times and then the 966 pulled it upright and kept it upright while I started it up and backed it off the stump I got it stuck on.

Just a bit farther we came to the old ranch mailbox, good road and a Havre Pipeline Company yard.

Made good time until we saw this big hawk? sitting. My new phone doesn't zoom in very good and I forgot my binoculars at home. Across the road was a prairie dog colony, wonder why he was hanging out there.

Made it to Chinook.

Doing the Blaine County Museum here tomorrow, stop 5 on our Montana Dinosaur Trail vacation. Then going to Bear Paw Battlefield where the Nez Perce were finally caught so close to Canada, Chief Joseph has been a hero of mine since I was a boy. Got a cabin at Sleeping Buffalo Hotsprings tomorrow night, $$$$, but hotsprings. Wife and daughter are excited about it. Spending the night in Chinook at Bearpaw Motel, older but very clean and has this parked across the street.

And that brings my trip current. Sitting in the motel room waiting for women folk to get ready.

There was an old square of trees with a power pole close to it between the old farm equipment up the hill and the D6 which was down in the bottoms. Saw what looked like an old bed frame gate barely hanging onto a post at what would have the front of the house. Figure it must have burned years ago because there was nothing left. There was a couple of newer burned pieces of farm equipment not too far from the homestead. Here's some more pictures of an IH that was in what must have been the old obsolete equipment yard of the farm. You can see the square of trees, power pole and the tip of my finger in the first picture.
