I have a EFHW portable. I was talking more about truly mobile. Bi have never found the 80M ham stick to tune up very well. The 80M rig is more for camping when there is more time to play with a set up.... relax with a cold drink.... play on the radio. Sounds like I need to go camping.

Wolf River Coils makes a good 75/80m antenna as well as the Tarheel Screwdriver Antenna.

Yes you need to go out and camp.

We just need a dedicated server running EchoLink connected to the internet… the server doesn’t even have to be able to connect to a radio.

Sounds like a job for a solid dedicated server hosting setup! No need for a radio—just a stable connection and a reliable host like HostNoc to keep things running smooth. Who knew EchoLink could thrive without actual radios? The future is wild!

This post sparked my interest as I miss the EchoLink nets we use to have. Since I have a homelab I launched a EchoLink conference node. Just waiting for approval now. I’ll keep you all posted and if it works out we may have a dedicated EchoLink conference for overlanding discussions.

There is a new EchoLink conference room out there called *Overland*. Now we need some people to run the net as I’ve got small children so not allot of time to run it every month. Also need to get a few people on it and test it out with a group to see how it runs.

*OVERLAND* is back live. I have created a AllStar Node as well so that more people can connect and not just limited to to EchoLink.

As far as equipment for Echolink, you only need a computer with a headset, mobile phone, or tablet with the App.
You WILL need your callsign and possibly a copy of your licence to get your login.
It is a great way to get started in the hobby without spending a lot.

Just a quick heads-up that I needed to update the connection details I previously shared due to some tweaks during testing and a correction on my initial information. Please make sure to check the connection details below carefully before joining the net.

Connection Details:

• EchoLink Node: W6UXD-R (Node 448622)
• Allstar Node: 64658

Connecting via Allstar: Allstar users can connect to node 64658. If you are using a connected radio, you will typically dial *3 followed by the node number (e.g., *364658) to connect. If you are using an Allstarlink interface on your computer, you can usually enter the node number directly.

EchoLink Information: If you're new to EchoLink, you'll need to register your call sign with EchoLink and have your license validated by them. Once that's done, you can connect using their software on your phone, tablet, or computer.

Why the change? To make the net accessible to a wider audience, including those on Allstar, we're using both EchoLink and Allstar. It's important to note that EchoLink's rules prevent conference nodes from being directly linked to other VoIP systems.
