Edit :
I finally figured out a name for this thing Kronk . If you have never seen the movie emperors new groove go do it ..... right now . we came up with the name because it's big , dumb but reliable and when I got it everything in the suspension squeaked and it reminded us of Kronk speaking to a squirrel.

Wasn’t planning on buying this thing was actually just going to take it for a test drive to see if a Tahoe would work as a replacement for my sequoia ( btw the sequoia is for sale ) but the gf bought it for me so how could I say no??? We are looking to buy a house in the next year so we are cutting back on a lot of stuff and two of those expenses are the sequoia and my boat

But back the the Tahoe , already has lift and good tread 35s on it , only 124k on the clock , leather with heated seats , rear ac and my favorite thing rear barn doors !!! So this will be more maintenance items and building bumpers taking it out exploring kinda thread .

Things that need attention.
Brakes
Go through all the suspension components and see what needs replacing
Alignment
Service the trans
Change all the fluids
Take off the rear traction bars
Carpets need a good scrubbing

So what’s the first thing to address .... playing in the snow of corse B457CB51-1FCC-411A-B812-B3BF1DF5659F.jpeg

The brakes definitely need addressing , the right rear brake is doing most the work and makes stopping on ice a real joy
Ran into a small issue with the stupid push button 4x4 ( will be swapping it for a manual tcase soon ) it wouldn’t come out of 4hi so unfortunately I had to drive quite a while on the pavement but even with that going from clackamas over MT hood over to hood river and back home it still managed 13mpg on the little trip .
And as always you gotta take the lady to do something she wants so a stop at one of our favorite wineries was in order 2DF0EF71-CD3A-418F-BF0C-3BDDE6D7C7BE.jpeg

Had a few hours free today and managed to get some things taken care of.
First off was the Exhaust it was rusted out and cut off right behind the muffler so it was resonating in the cab a little .BB4269CB-A363-4F9F-86BE-B6A7C7AB1759.jpeg

Now this pipe goes to show you the difference in pipe quality , everything before the muller is fine and I’m sure is factory . Lot of times when you get a lot cheaper quote on exhaust work it’s probably because they use cheap pipe and mufflers . The thinner the pipe the more sound will end up inside your cab and not out the tailpipe.
79FBD2AB-F4D7-4700-8124-6A3650857555.jpegIt’s not tucked up as far as I want but I just needed it fixed for now because it will get rerouted when I build a bumper . Kinda sucked because I think the battery in my welding mask is going out because it was only darkening half the time so I ended up doing one crappy not looking at it welds but no leaks so that’s all that matters .
Played around with the torsion bars a bit nd hopefully have it set at good spot where the cvs aren’t at much of a angle, also got the bumper and pinch weld taken care of so there’s no more tire rubbing 72B0B4F9-6828-4C7F-BCAC-FF14605ACE2D.jpegFF320126-2715-4C97-B392-D31AB9438BF5.jpeg

Last thing was pulling off the traction bars , rides so much better now . Might have another use for these things B68FF7AF-811E-4A62-AB86-537749C06C19.jpeg

Today’s project was getting the interior cleaned up a little , it’s still amazing to me how many different things you can use simple green cleaner . If you dilute it quite a bit it makes a great carpet cleaner . I don’t have my handheld carpet cleaner anymore so a bucket of hot water scrub brush and some clean rags can get most all the stains gone .30C4AF29-2240-4A71-AC3B-988CD9AD6C07.jpeg

Thanks , I hope it just keeps needing general maintenance things and doesn’t turn into much of a project I have a rather major cj5 project going on that I hope to put my free time into after the holidays

Typical sign you've owned a Chevy before. LOL. They aren't too bad to replace, a lot of guys cut a hole in the suburban/tahoes just due to it really being a pain to drop the fuel tank. Us truck guys have 6-8 bolts and can get to it easily.

Been busy with the holidays and all that good stuff so not much has been happening car wise , but had a fantastic Christmas with the family and got engaged!!!20171222_134649.jpg

We where kid less for the weekend so we went snowshoeing (that's where I proposed) stopped at a casino and took the long way to this awesome cabin that is right on the Mckenzie river . It was definitely the best holiday ive ever had and i hope they only get better with every year im with this amazing woman . It was nice to get some highway miles on the Tahoe to get a good sense of what needs to be done on it . Put around 450 miles on it and averaged around 13mpg 20171222_125156.jpg 20171222_125219.jpg 20171222_202830.jpg 20171223_073428.jpg

had some down time waiting for a truck so the munchkin and I managed to get the Tahoe polished a bit 9589E1EC-6F07-4E40-BDEF-C8D6F8B58F24.jpg

Pulled of the rear sway bar , definitely need longer rear shocks and ditch the add a leaf and the overload spring ( I'll run airbags for towing) 20171218_180846.jpg20171218_180807.jpg

So far I'm super happy with it just need to address some maintenance items b4 I wanna take it off the beaten path exploring

I approve of this thread. This era of GM trucks are my favorites. It's before they got soft!

Thanks man , ya I really like these years , everything is super simple to repair, I could find parts at a grocery store for it and they are dead reliable . It will get a SAS after I buy a house because I'm not really a fan of ifs but other then that I just hope to drive it and enjoy it

Heard that. I had a 1990 Full Size Bronco a few years back. Lift, 35's regeared to 4:56 etc... The only issue I had was the Twin Traction Beam front suspension.

Well I still haven't had a chance to go out in the Tahoe and test it , took it up to go snowshoeing but that's about it . Got some more maintenance stuff done , put in new upper control arms and lower ball joints .

Happen to stop by a local habitat for humanity re-store shop , wanted to see what they had to hopefully pick up some odds and ends for wedding decorations but they really didn't have much in old wood or clocks ( fiancé wants to do like a drunken mad hatter tea party with miss matched China and clocks ) but they where having 50% off all cabinets soooooo I picked up a skinny cabinet hoping to use it as a built in box over the wheel well .

20180109_115129.jpg

It ended up being a little to wide but it was the perfect size for a fold up shelf on the barn door , needs some trimming and some cables or chains to help hold it up but for 6$ I call it a win and if it doesn't end up working oh well it was 6$20180109_125011.jpg

The backup lights on this thing are just about worthless so I picked up some super cheap flush mount led lights , I usually hate buying cheap Chinese import stuff but with the high chance these will get broken I'd rather go cheap 20180119_134332.jpg

Eventually after im done with my jeep project I'll build some. For now I might tuck a winch behind the front bumper and call it good

Went up to Mt hood in search of some spots off the beaten path where we could go sledding but after a good 10 miles of going down what backroads we could find still open there wasn't enough snow to get any good sledding in so we ended up turning around and heading back up to a normal snow spot full of people. Still had alot of fun but being away from the crowds would have been nice.

We were just going to go back hwy 26 home but traffic was backed up at the pass so we took the long way home around the mountain.
