First Post Lock Down Trip (Grand Isle Louisiana 5-9-20)

On April 9th we took a little trip down to Grande Isle, LA. This is basically one of the "toes" of Louisiana (look at the shape of the state and you'll understand) which is right on the Gulf of Mexico. A friend of the family had a camp and invited us to come spend some time with them as well as my mother in law and a few other family members that we hadn't seen since the lock down who had been staying with him for the weekend.

Our kids spent time fishing, playing cards and just hanging out. We did take them to get a snowball/ice cream and check out the beach but It was quite windy and far too cold to swim, although my tween girl BEGGED to be able to do so anyway.









I spent a significant amount of time the night before charging the batteries for my DJI drone and my Go Pro cameras. The thought was that I was going to get to take the 4Runner onto the sandy beach on Elmer's Island and run the 4 wheel drive system through its paces. But alas, it was too windy for the drone and worse yet, Elmer's Island (and the Grande Isle State Park) were closed. It was still a nice relaxing day and I took the 4Runner out and got some pics.

Very cool. I used to hang out around Holly Beach decades ago. Hurricane Rita ruined it, and now it's all modern and expensive.

I love Louisiana.....

I went to Holly beach for hurricane Laura response a few months ago. It looked pretty bad, they will deff have to rebuild again, beautiful area though

I went down to Lake Charles for a funeral a few weeks ago. It's still a wreck form those hurricanes last year.

Glad to see the virus paranoia is about over down there as well.

We used to vacation there when I was a kid living in New Orleans. Went back for a charter boat fishing trip. I remember catching crabs on the beach and having a crab boil near the house we would rent. Good times.
