Finally said “screw it” and bought a rack system and RTT. Got the Smittybilt SRC rack and an ARB Simpson III. I wanted to get the bigger Smittybilt XL tent but they are back ordered until some time in July. I looked at racks by Frontrunner, Gobi, Garvin, Barricade. Decided to go with the cheaper Smittybilt because hopefully the family likes overlanding and I can transition to a trailer in a year or two.

Took me about 3.5hrs to put the rack on the Jeep. Fitment issues caused it to go a little long. Another 3 hours of fussing with the tent. Not a fan of having to chop the aluminum rails just to do a back mount. The tent is smaller than I’d like but should be cozy for me and my 3 and 5 year olds. Looking forward to hitting the trails!

Nice, I like how it comes off the back of your rig. Gives more coverage when your under it and leaves more room on your rack for storage.

Thanks. Yeah that’s exactly why I wanted it off the back. I can fit my old basket on the front half, that will carry my totes. And I got the annex that hangs down from the tent so I’ll have sheltered access to the rear of the Jeep.

The annex is awesome. Provides a bit of privacy.
