I’m an avid camper, outdoorsmen and overlander. My wife and (step)daughter aren’t so much. Or weren’t.

Over this last weekend I finally got them out. The weather was very cold and wet (for south Texas) but they were champs and stuck it out. We’re working on a few more trips now! They are getting as excited about it as I am.
Other than actually getting them out there. I had a few big time dad moments that warmed my heart.
I got to teach my (step)daughter how to build a fire. How to set camp up. How to make home made fire starters. And how to start a fire with a ferro rod. She got it on her first strike! I was so proud!
I also handed down the knife my father gave me for camping and hunting. It’s older than I am. What a great weekend.

Then. The girls got to was the vehicles! Haha

The ONLY thing that matters is you are building memories. We haven’t had an RV for years. But, my kids still talk about all the great trips we took. They especially remember the ones where things didn’t go right. Now they’re all grown and the wife won’t have anything to do with overlanding. But, that’s ok. I still can build overlanding memories myself and do other types of trips with her. Now, I’m just looking forward to building memories with grandchildren. Won’t be long…

Working on the grandkids angle myself. They're just getting to the age where there's no diapers ( maybe a pull-up) and things like fishing and camping are interesting.

That’s great stuff, man! Not to be confused with the expanding foam variant. Seriously, awesome! This is such a refreshing and heart warming post.

Thank you!!!!
Yeah it was great. And the kid is getting hooked. She wants to plan a trip now too. So I’m letting her. With guidance. Of course.

My first overlanding trip I was still in diapers. My grandpa had a ‘77 Ford F-250 Camper Special that he used to take me and my two cousins to fish the Oregon coast. I was about 2 years old and my cousins must have been about 6 and 9. The thing I remember the most was sippin’ grandma’s hot chocolate while looking over the ocean at sunset.
