Good morning everyone. Staying in Durango CO for the weekend. Headed up to Ouray shortly on US 550. We want to do some easy to moderate trails on our way up to Ouray and throughout Ouray. Maybe stop in Silverton for a train ride. Does anyone have any suggestions. I don’t have a high jack or a ham radio at the moment with the new Jeep, but I do have a winch and straps, so I’m not looking to get to cowboy this weekend.

I highly recommend the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. I took the trip in early July. If it’s within your budget, book the last car (parlor car) on the steam train. You’ll have private access the the rear viewing platform and it’s pretty cool to see the entire train stretched out ahead of you on the curves. I had a blast!

My girlfriend and I were planning out the 5 hour train ride but we ended up getting engaged on blue lakes pass instead. That was an all day trip in itself without and oxygen bottle. Just the hike up the mountain from the Jeep was a 2000’ vert.

I was trying to put my profile together on the road with limited service driving up from Texas to Colorado. I watched a YouTube and this app overland bound came across from an existing member. It has been awesome.
Side note:
I was on the corkscrew gulch trail in Ouray. This was before I knew you could track and record your trails, instead I had to note it as a pathfinder.

Also if anyone happens to go into Ouray anytime soon. Drop In to the Jeep rental/ tours shop in the middle of town. They’re a wealth of knowledge and friendly just with advise about the trails and handing out their own maps for anyone interested.

Good info, you might put this on the Trip Planning page.
