I have single compartment ARB and tried to use the dry ice as a "freezer" for one side. It was more trouble than it was worth, and didn't really work out too well. So I didn't use to to supplement the fridge, more like an addition to fridge. I like having ice on my trips so I now put a 10lb bag of ice in a dry bag and keep it in the fridge to use as needed.

I used it years ago when I did long desert camps. I had a 100 qt ice chest I would fill with blocks and a pack of dry ice on top. Th ice would last for several days before the temp would raise any. The down side to dry ice is its -109F. That will ruin any food you put in there.
Ice starts to melt at 32 degrees. The ice house near me would keep it at -15 as apposed to the store that kept their ice at 20. The 20 degree ice was melting by the time I got home.

If your going to use ice, try to find a local ice house and buy modern ice chests. The Yetti was the first of the modern insulation. Find a copy of that design and your ice will last longer.

The danger is that it is CO2, and if stored in a confined area, could "choke" you to death. Another thing is that it doesnt melt to water but turns directly to gaseous form, so pressure could build up in the cooler and cause the lid to open or leak, then see above
