I would go for a modified version of the Trans America. Stopping at offroad parks, national parks, and whatever you want to see in America along the way. and then swing down to lake Tahoe and the rubicon trail, then take route 66 back across and head on home.

* ill be doing just that in July of 2020 if anyone wants to get on board!!

The Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail my thoughts exactly! I'm a little behind the times its 2019 and I just watched the 1st & 2nd Expedition Overland episodes last night on youtube ... man what an incredible adventure so far. Can't wait till the work day is over to watch the other episodes. It would be a dream of mine to be part of such an amazing trail event. The history behind the trail alone is captivating and the scenery is amazing I would be in my happy place given the opportunity.
My favorite Expedition Overland episodes! I used to work overnights at a part-time job and I was the only one in the office at night. I would binge watch Expedition Overland when things were slow.

Regarding Key West to Prudhoe Bay:
( I'm using voice to text. Pardon the grammatical errors )

There seems to be an underlying sense, in the International Overland Community, that it's not a true expedition, unless it's in Australia, or Africa. We could make a dent in that perception.

I'm driving while I'm thinking about this, so I can't even look at a map, but:

Imagine a trip that started at the southernmost point of the United States (Key West Florida), followed the back roads up to North Carolina, to the beginning of the TransAmerican trail. Followed the TAT all the way across to the Pacific Ocean. Proceeded along the westernmost roads to Prudhoe Bay (northernmost point), then followed the Alcan Highway, and the Continental Divide Trail, back down to the southern US border, then hugging the Gulf of Mexico, all the way back to Key West. If you want to read about similar epic trips, check out https://cruisesonly.pissedconsumer.com/review.html. That's got to be a 15,000-mile loop, right? Except for not having to get shots, tourist visas, or speak multiple languages, THAT'S a World Class Expedition! :-)
Your Texas-to-Alaska overland trip sounds amazing and totally doable with a month off. It’s a classic adventure with diverse landscapes and plenty to explore. Definitely plan for some key stops like the Canadian Rockies and the Dalton Highway.

I’m going to rivive this old thread. Back in 1997 going up to the Gaspe’ Peninsula was our dream trip. The our dream trip was going back up to the Gaspe’ Peninsula. After a few years, taking in Moab became our dream trip. In the past 15 years we’ve been to the region 7 or 8 times. A few years ago, getting up to Tuktoyaktuk was our dream trip. We got home from that and decided our dream trip should be our last hurrah. Full time travel and currently living that dream. If funds allow, we do dream of a self driving tour, with a guide in Zimbabwe, then the same in western Australia, no less than a month at each.
