@T4R_ninja

Looks sweet.
I like the way the table folds up and stores underneath. What is the proper name for those locking latches you used on the right side drawers. They look nice and robust.
What do you store in that tall middle drawer?

Awesome! I am looking to build something similar for a 2011 Grand Cherokee, but I'm still brainstorming a bit.

Great build! What kind of plywood did you use? Thickness? What did you use to anchor it down. Im designing my own drawer system right now and looking for ideas.

What was the ballpark on the cost of your build? Did you screw pieces together or use wood glue and is there any advantage to one over the other?

Too Short for my needs were Drawers only 8.4” tall

Tuffyproducts.com
Tactical Security Drawer only 8” or 16” tall versions
Too Short for my needs were Drawers only 8.4” tall

Of the commercial offerings the Slee/ARB and DobinsonUSA packages were the closest to meeting my needs. Both required additional Fab work to create the side flaps and sleeping platforms which was not included in the cost of the commercial offering. My build came in at half the cost which is fairly consistent with wood working projects that I've undertaken in the past.

Mods : if this is considered a thread crap / hijack let me know and I'll copy it and create my own "build" thread with this info

Thanks for the info. I had seen the plans you were talking about and really liked that design. Do you know if it’s easily modified for a 5th gen? I don’t know how different if at all the backs are between 4th and 5th. How much weight do you feel comfortable putting on it? I want to put a Dometic fridge with a pullout system and use as a sleeping platform for myself and I’m about 300lbs.

Adam (@TheAdventureIndex ) Has a fridge on his setup. The plans were easy to modify. I think the overall dimensions should be similar between the 4th and 5th gens. Main difference will be the mounting points from what I can see. If you check his original thread others have modified them for Xterras and other SUVs. I modeled his plans in Sketchup then adjusted them to to meet my needs. Taking out some wood here, making taller... then built from my Sketchup drawings. there were a few mods that needed to be made during build but nothing serious.

Weight on top is NO PROBLEM. I'm just down from 300 Lbs and holds me no problem. Not a lot of head room because my set was built taller than the wheel wells to fit some gear in the drawers that was bigger than the original plans. Weight in the Drawers is NO PROBLEM the slides are rated to 500 Lbs per drawer. I'd need to line the bottom of the drawers with 2.3" thick lead bricks to hit that weight. I believe that someone could dance an Irish jig on top of it without a failure. Just back from a 4 day trip with myself and another photographer, we tented it on the trip, but the system held all of our camp and photo gear with a fully stocked Igloo Sportsman 60qt cooler. Converted quickly back to a 3 seater to take on another photographer who joined us for a few outings. Worked well all in all.

Thanks for the shoutout! (Free drawer plans here!)

As for the strength, I weight 175lbs, and I've sat on the drawer while its fully extended. - build it right, be happy!

ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE, I WILL BE MAKING OTHER PLATFORM SPECIFIC PLANS IN THE NEXT COMING MONTHS. stay tuned!
