Hello,

Looking to be up around Crater Lake the following weekend 7/6 -7/9. I am looking for suggestions on dispersed camping. We are deciding to do this trip on short notice so reservations would be hard to come by this time of year on short notice and the Recreation.gov website is down.

I found the map that outlines permitted back country camping areas which is helpful, but looking on Google Maps, it doesn't look like there is much in the way of access roads or trails to get into the permitted areas. Pretty much just for hikers on the PCT it seems.

If anyone has any recommendations they would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can't see the lake unless you're on the actual Rim Road around it , you're much better off camping a little further away and then driving to go see it. There's lots of lakes and national forest land within a 1/2 -45 min drive that would be much better suited and less likely to be crowded .

So we did Lost Lake the first 2 nights. It is $5, first come first served. Had porta-potties, no water, no fires. The last night we got a spot at Mazama Village campground for $22 with showers, toilets, camp fires, water and trash.

We decided not to do dispersed meeting up with family not as well equipped.
