Love this drive enough to have done it a few times. Last time was Summer '17 with my daughter as the last part of a 10 adventure through western Colorado and into Utah.
The trail is technically only about 7 1/2 miles long but that doesn't take into account that it starts deep into Dinosaur National Monument and ends a good hour from the main road (or more depending on the route you take).
It's a pretty straightforward drive through some beautiful scenery including several overlook vantage points where you can stop and take a peek over the cliff edge down to the river below. Pretty easy to see where the river flow has changed course over the millennia. There are signs that will tell you that the road may be impassable in certain conditions - it can get extremely slick when it's been rainy so take heed.

We drove it last July. It's a must do if you're ever in the area. There's also an old cabin along the way and Echo Park Campground is a nice place to camp. We feature the Yampa Bench Road in one of our videos. It starts at 5:33.
