Diesel Engine troubles

I drive a 3.o Turbo diesel but lately things are not running as smooth as they should. All of a a sudden the rig starts jerking in fourth gear. Its as if it is miss firing. What I find strange is its only in 4"th gear. Any one that works on diesel engines that can help a brother out? Any advice or suggestions will help..

What type, year of vehicle or engine? Manual or automatic? CRD? Kilometers? Can you try to recreate the jerk in a different gear but at the same speed and or rpm? Does it jerk all through 4th until 5th it does it stop while still in 4th?

Still struggling. I run Nissan Hardbody 16V 3.0 Turbo Diesel 4x4. 250 000km on the clock. Manual transmision.

It only jerks in 4th gear between 2000rpm and 3000rpm.

little tricky for a lot of us as we weren't lucky enough to get the diesel in our country. Going from a pretty rough memory, Id check your pinion angle. 4th gear in one of those high speed-high power situations before going to 5th, which is pretty much a cruising gear.

Short of that, when it starts pop the clutch in and see if the vibration stops. It could be some resonance at that particular speed.

I would check transmission fluid condition (excessive metal fillings), U joints, axle pinion and mounting for looseness, and springs for broken leaves or badly worn bushings. these things are unlikely but it never hurts to cover all the bases. For the engine I would start looking at the basic stuff, air filter, valve adjustment, charge air leaks, injector condition. I have seen a few engines do similar stuff with injectors going out. You would need to do a cut out test to check injectors though.
