My duralast platinum battery is 6 years old and has done quite well. However, it is down to less than 80% capacity ( it'll only charge up to 12.5 volts or so ) Before we head out again it's time for a new battery. I run a dual system and the house battery, an Optima M series, is less than a year old. It charges up to nearly 100% with the solar panel. My alternator, after 7 years is still charging 14 +/- volts. I've been considering switching to the good old reliable Die Hard Platinum AGM. These batteries used to be a rebadged Oddysey manufactured by Enersys. I've read that since Advance Auto Purchased the brand from Sears, Enersys is still the manufacturer of the Platinum series of AGM batteries. All the other Die Hard batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls.
Obviously I'm shopping, and wide open for any informed opinions.

I had a Die Hard Platinum that lasted 10 years. I suspect it only died because I wasn't driving the 4Runner much and the battery was drained down well below 50% multiple times. I replaced it with an 34R Odyssey Extreme that has an almost identical case and capacity (both made by Enersys) and it's working great.

For the Tacoma I wanted to try a different brand, so I went with Northstar 27F. Build quality seems equal to the Die Hard and Odyssey, though the price was a bit higher due to the larger battery size. One thing to note is that Northstar recommends charging their batteries at a higher voltage than most other AGMs. I ended up installing a diode in the ALT-S position to raise the charging voltage by around 0.7v.

Based on my experience I would not hesitate to recommend either of these batteries.

Well then, the Die Hard doesn’t manufacture a 34r or a 27f battery. I went back to auto zone for a new Duralast Platinum and they no longer make the 34r. They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse though. An Odyssy 34r for only 10 more dollars than the Duralast. That’s a freaking deal. $218 plus tax.. I’m picking it up tomorrow.
