Hello fellow Adventurers,

I've been wanting to get the Colorado out on a little tougher trail so I'm planning to run Deer Valley and Strawberry Canyon the first weekend in August.

My plan is to camp Friday night at the top of Corral Hollow, then head to Deer Valley Saturday morning, camping Saturday night at the upper meadow. Sunday morning I'll head out of Blue Lakes to Strawberry Canyon and be home that afternoon.

I'm escaping with just my dog since the Wife is planning a "Girls Weekend" at home.

Anyone interested in joining is welcome and I'm pretty flexible on the plan so let me know..

Jim

Jim- heading up to Corral Hollow July 19-20 any side trails you would recommend that I take. Sport can't do Slick or Deer.

There are several relatively easy trails close to Corral Hollow. Here are a few that come to mind:
  • Mattley Ridge
  • Calaveras Dome
  • Black Springs Route
  • 7N93 (not sure of the name)
  • Highland Lakes
  • Sourgrass (up until the river crossing)

Thanks Slomatt-

I can still make Sourgrass but don't drive it to the end without other vehicles. I was thinking about Highland. Do you know what area 7N93 is around so I can find it on a map?

7N93 starts at the end of the "Round Valley Sno-Park" parking lot, which is on the road heading to Bear Valley ski resort. I haven't been up there in years, but remember it as an out-and-back road that went up on a ridge with good views. Interestingly, if you follow the road to the end on Google Maps it looks like there is a cabin back there.

Highland Lakes is an easy trail (I've driven it in a Honda Accord) but the lakes are nice to visit.

Fly Boy- Sorry for not getting back to you on your question but it looks like slomatt had some great suggestions. Hopefully you were able to take the turn off to Jelmini Basin when you did Corral Hollow, thats where the picture was taken in my original post.

We've been super busy buying a house in Idaho so I'm going to have to shorten my trip by one night. I'll be skipping Friday night at Corral Hollow and heading directly to Deer Valley on Saturday morning. Should be at the trail head at around 10:30 if anybody is interested in tagging along.
