Ya I thought about doing that and actually in my area you can find TRUCK Bed Trailers all over for 500 bucks give or take a few hundred. Then just toss a camper on top of it and possibly insulate and your good to go. I'd want a Long Bed though.

Got a bunch done on the trailer today. Removable 2" ball hitch welded up, Trailer tounge jack attached, corner caps on my front frame ends welded on, angle iron mounts for the front box welded on, and fabbed up a spare tire hoist behind the axle. I'm not that concerned with rear clearance. Picked up my new axle yesterday, but I'm waiting on my mounting bolts. I'm hoping I'll get that swapped and the bed back on before next weeked!20191116_112423-01.jpg20191116_112413-01.jpg20191116_112346-01.jpg20191116_112448-01.jpg20191116_112454-01.jpg20191116_153931-01.jpg20191116_153907-01.jpg20191116_153917-01.jpg20191116_153927-01.jpg

Got the new axle and wheels installed today! This raised the level hitch point up 9" overall and gives me 17" of clearance under the center of the axle. I'm pretty stoked to finally see it up off the ground. Tomorrow I paint the bare metal and hopefully we can mount the bed back on it Wednesday.20191118_163453-01.jpg20191118_163800-01.jpg20191118_164445-01.jpg

Man you are jammin' away here, great stuff! what about that gas door, have you thought about using that for something? Would make a sweet spot to put some power outlets, or water fill port, etc.

Actually, you got it, i plan to use it for a fill port into a fresh water tank that I'll mount between the bed and the frame. But that's a ways down the road. LOL

Haven't been working on the Gremlin through the holidays but it got an update this week! Stumbled across this utility shell on marketplace & it just so happened to be the right width. Unfortunately it's about 5" short, but I'm thinking that'll be a great spot to mount some accessories. Maybe fab up an expanded metal grid that I can mount various tools, tracks, or gear to. 20200201_163157.jpg20200201_163238.jpg20200201_163221.jpg20200201_163303.jpg

Looks good! I've got a Ford Courier trailer I'm slowly working on. Have you given any thought to what you're going to do about leveling/stabilizer jacks yet, if any?

I've been kicking around this idea for a while and stumbled across this little gem on FB marketplace. Picked it up for $200 & I have a lot planned for it. First off, rebuild and extend the tongue. Secondly, have a custom "raised" axle built to accommodate larger tires. Third, fab up a rack for a RTT. I'm also planning on applying bedliner over the entire bed, but that'll be after all the fab work gets done. Any advice along the way is greatly appreciated as this is my first trailer/overland project. View attachment 122259View attachment 122260View attachment 122261
I have the same trailer, but grey. I flipped the axle to mount on the bottom of the leave springs and got an easy 2 or 3 inches out of it.

The reach on my trailer is 1/4" wall 2x2" tubing and it's not flexing under load or anything. I really wanted to be able to turn past 90 degrees, so I left that reach long enough to do just that. My Brother says I'm an idiot and if I've gone 90 degrees it's time to stop! lol I use that turn radius all the time though, a small trailer is so damn handy, no sense hampering it with limitations.View attachment 122349
.

Being able to back up that sharp too can save a lot of space in a parking lot that doesn't have pull throughs. Instead of blocking four spots with my van and trailer, I'll back her up close as I can to a right angle.

Not sure yet. Been thinking about using some RV stabilizer jacks (not the scissor style), but have also thought about just some of the weld on tounge style jacks.

Took the Gremlin out on its maiden voyage last weekend. Loaded up my sons' Scout troop gear for a weekend Campout. Only got this one pic while they were still sleeping before we packed up, but it worked great. Only real issue I had was the trailer will rock or roll back and forth (side to side) while taking curves. I'm thinking the shocks need to be replaced. That's the cheapest solution at the moment. I also have been kicking the idea of a pickup bed sleeper instead of RTT’s I bought mine at a junk yard and started to build it though a idea percolating in my head I still have a lot to do but it’s fun build till you run out of funds lol. But still fun..View attachment 125741
This is exactly what I've been thinking of doing. I may just fabricate a trailer and use a truck be topper but I think purchasing a truck bed would make a neat project instead of building from scratch. Since I drive a new Nissan truck that hasn't had a major design change in close to 400 years(LOL) I could get a used bed to make the trailer.
