I am trying to figure out a place to take the wife and kids camping this fall for a weekend thats not too far from Dallas and relatively secluded. Has anyone been out to Copper Breaks? My understanding is its not a very popular park even though its an International Dark Sky Park.

Any other suggested locations would be appreciated.

I've never been to that one but it looks nice in the pictures. I'm my experience, the "less popular" are often the nicest ones. Gotta remember that "most people" want a place to park a 40 ft granite countertop, dual AC land ship so they can watch tv somewhere else.

If you don't want to risk an ear full after a bad weekend, you could plan a big weekend at caprock or paloduro and swing by on your way to scout it out. If you've got a state park pass you don't have to pay.

No risk of an ear full. The family doesnt care where we go just so long as we go.
