Hi OB people! I recently purchased a 10# tank to air up with. I’m surprised to find how difficult it is just to drive down to a welding supply store and fill it. Many businesses are willing to change it out with traditional welding tanks but I’m not willing to do that. Does anyone have any suggestions on where this can be filled? I tried Tractor Supply and Dicks Sporting to find out neither store will fill. I’m located on the CA coast and travel around quite a bit so any stores that you know of would be helpful. Thanks

Home beer making supply stores, beverage service companies, Paint-ball supply stores to name a few.

Ask around, I struggled at first and then found a good sized local 4x4 repair shop that will do it (they also sell PowerTanks) and it's half the price of anywhere else!

Is the tank due for a vis or hydro?

Tank nazi's are an industry in the US. I've had hydro shops fail a galvanized tank that was brand new. They didn't pre-stretch it properly, before testing.

Thanks for the reply Kent. I’m talking to one now to find they source the bottles out. I just worry I will get my tank back all banged up. I would like to go to a vendor and have it filled while I wait. Not sure how that’s going to happen but will keep trying.

This. Don't go to Praxair, Airgas. They only fill their bottles. My local place actually now sends them off to another facility and they have all the equipment there. Sad.

This is the disadvantage of buying the tanks like Powertank. I can't exchange those most times but I can take a CO2 bottle I got from a welding supply store and exchange it or fill it depending on the circumstances.

You can fill your Powertank from a welding supply tank. You'll need a booster, and a 150psi compressor.

You drain from the big tank, into the empty tank, when they equalize, turn on the booster. This is how paintball shops fill 5000psi into our markers tanks, from a 3000psi cylinder. Co2 only needs boosted to 860.
