I wash mine every time I get done. Usually just take the power washer to it and regular garden hose with nozzle around the sensitive bits. I keep mine clean simply because I like my seals and gaskets to not leak from dirt damage. Plus it is easier to work on a clean rig rather than fighting dirt to get to nuts and bolts.
