How much do these rub?
I didn't even try to drive it. Sitting flat, there was like an inch of clearance before touching the fender, and with the lower backspacing on the wheels, it absolutely would have hit. I just threw them on in my driveway really quick to see what they look like and how far they stuck out.

They're actually on my roommate's lifted XJ right now while he saves up for tires lol. They look GREAT on 3.5" of lift. They're shockingly quiet and have fantastic road mannerisms for MTs. Really happy with these tires.

Made a quick video of the assembly process of the engine for fun:


I have Good Friday off at work, so I'll be starting the tear down process of my Cherokee this weekend to take the front end off it, drop the drive shafts, transfer case, exhaust, and pull the engine. I'm going to POR15 any rust and then paint the underside to try and slow any cancer going on under there while the under body is accessible. Stay tuned for more progress pictures!

Engine swap is underway. I spent Friday evening and all of Saturday labeling all of the wires/plugs/lines, tearing down the front of the jeep, and removing the old engine. By Sunday midday, we got the new engine in and bolted to the transmission and called it a day. I'm waiting for my Browndog engine mounts to come in before going further. The mounts are nice and accessible right now and I want to put them in while its easy. It's sitting on the old, busted mounts for now.. once the new ones come in, I'll replace those and the transmission mount and start bolting everything else back together. I hope to have it running again next weekend!

Finished putting the new engine and jeep back together and got it running over the weekend! took about 48 hours of actual work time, most of the time with one or two people over helping me... A couple of hiccups getting it running correctly, but it's good now. Drove it ~25 min last night, drove it into work this morning, fires right up and runs smooth.

With the brand new engine, I also took the tranny pan off and cleaned it out, put a new filter and gasket on it. Surprisingly clean in there, I was happy. Also installed a transmission cooler while everything was apart and easily accessible. New u joints on the driveshafts while they were off the car (technically still have to do the front one, it's not in the jeep quite yet).

Also used Brown Dog heavy duty engine mounts to keep that bad boy in place. The rotation of the engine with the stock mounts tends to cause the exhaust manifolds to crack (no flex pipe in the system). Off roading is also hell on stock mounts, so this should help prevent the engine from tilting forward into the radiator which can happen from a stock unit wearing out.

Went with upgraded injectors. the stock injectors only have one hole in the nozzle; I upgraded to 19lbs. 4-hole injectors that were rebuilt from K Suspension Fabrication. They should vastly increase the efficiency of my fuel delivery and combustion. I'm excited to see how that impacts my fuel economy (and power).

Everything else on the engine/coolant system that I replaced is OE spec.

All that said... I'm ready to take a break from turning wrenches for a couple weeks...

Next on the list: aux. electronics wiring and brakes!

I've been fighting a small misfire issue for the past couple of weeks and I think I finally got it ironed out:



Pinched oring on cyl 1. That's no good. Got a new one, put it on, lubed everything up and reassembled. From there, I started the Jeep... still a misfire. Mother fucker!

I wiggled the connectors to the injectors... there is a little bit of play. The injectors are EV-1 and the injectors are EV-1, but the injectors originated life in a Ford, and which had a different style of clip to hold the plug onto the injector. Also, there were a couple of plugs on mine that the old ass plastic snapped on while I was removing them. I bought a set of EV-1 plugs off Amazon that had a nice metal springy clip on them. They fit snugly onto the new injectors. Solid. Soldered those on last Saturday, and the misfire seems to be gone, now. Fucking finally.

I have some wire wrap coming this week that I'm going to put on the wires I soldered on for the clips. It's all just electrical tape right now. I did the best I could to make it look nice, but you can only do so much with tape. I'll post pictures when I'm finished.


I sure hope that was the final issue, because if not, I am at a loss as to where to go next to troubleshoot lol.

Cleaned up my injector wiring with some wire wrap. I hate the look of electrical tape, so this cleans up my intake side and hopefully will help keep the tape from unraveling, too.

big progress: got the front end lifted. Unfortunately, the front bolt on one of the rear leaf packs snapped on me while I was trying to get it loose... and it threads into the frame. So I couldn't finish the suspension up. It's at a shop right now to have that resolved... no welder, so I can't fix it myself

This is new LCAs (super-flex Rubicon Express short arms... the front end has a johnny joint for extra articulation), 3.5" lift coils, Rubicon Express monotube shocks (made by Bilstein
). I've gotta say, HUGE fan of Rubicon Express parts. They are definitely high quality and their support (one of my control arms had overspray in the threads for the zerk and I couldn't thread it) is top notch. And holy shit do these arms flex!

A couple of weeks ago I also did new u-joints on my axle shafts and Timken hubs. I need to to ball joints at some point, I have a new set of Spicers waiting, but my current BJs are actually in decent condition. I'm sure that will change soon enough with the larger tires.

Things on the front that aren't really pictured: quick disconnect end links, MOOG problem solver tie rod and drag link, Rough Country track bar.
