US Southwest CDT NM

Thats a lot of weight.
You probably do need higher rate springs. Only problem is, if you do the heavier springs, it will probably ride terribly unloaded. But with it sitting like you mentioned, I would think it would be unsafe.

And now you know why I drive an HD truck. :grinning:

Well, when I started building this 4runner, overlanding wasn't on my radar. After I found Overland Bound, I almost immediately wanted to experience overlanding. Yes, I understand the HD truck. If the 4runner had any hp, I might would pull a really small trailer.

I'm not concerned about the axles and suspension, just the lack of power and terrible mileage. This trip is going to take a lot of fuel.

Did you figure anything out on your load? What engine you have? 5VZ?

I do have the 5VZ and it seems to run fine at interstate speed. I did a gear change from 4.11 to 4.88 which was much more noticeable than I expected. I'm still studying the load. As soon as the drawer system is done and back in the 4runner I'm going to get a gross weight.

This past year when I was in NM some parts of the Santa Fe NF and Carson NF had signs saying shovels and pails required. Just an FYI. .

Happy New Year!! I'll have the 4runner running this weekend after much maintenance. I still need to install the Timbren bump stops on the rear. I too am looking forward to the trip.
Still to do list
* New Tires
* Front end alignment
* Possibly an upgraded rear anti sway bar
* Limiting straps front and rear
* Some interior lighting

I get more projects done in the two weeks before a trip than I do all winter. It just always seems to work out that way.

Since I've never been a trip like this I wonder, do we or should we share family contact information or vehicle descriptions in case of an emergency situation?

I would say yes, but on day 1 since we don't know who is going to show up yet. Emergency Contact Info is never a bad thing to share, along with any medical conditions that might be relevant.

@Kent R
I still can't access Rally Point Events from my computer.
Still working on getting that feature back. I have a meeting with Corrie at HQ today and will bring it up again a
